Luke Watson has still not recovered from the throat injury sustained against the Force in round 2, meaning Super Rugby new boys, the Southern Kings, will once again be lead by Darron Nell as they host the Chiefs in Port Elizabeth this weekend.

Watson took a blow to the throat and had to leave the field halfway through his side’s opener. He was bracketed on the bench last week, but was forced to pull out late in the day and will apparently now see a specialist to determine when he will actually be able to get back onto the field.

Kings coach Matt Sexton has named an unchanged line-up for this weekend, after his charges defended manfully to restrict the Sharks to a 21-12 win at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium last Saturday.

Southern Kings: 15 SP Marais, 14 Marcello Sampson, 13 Ronnie Cooke, 12 Andries Strauss, 11 Sergeal Petersen, 10 Demetri Catrakilis, 9 Shaun Venter, 8 Jacques Engelbrecht, 7 Wimpie van der Walt, 6 Cornell du Preez, 5 Darron Nell (captain), 4 Steven Sykes, 3 Kevin Buys, 2 Bandise Maku, 1 Schalk Ferreira.
Replacements: 16 Edgar Marutlulle, 17 Jaco Engels, 18 David Bulbring, 19 Daniel Adongo, 20 Nicolas Vergallo, 21 George Whitehead, 22 Hadleigh Parkes.

  • This is the best attack in the competition to test your defense against.

  • One thing is for sure, the Kings players are extremely fit. To keep defending the way they did for 80mins. takes some doing.
