No changes for Cheetahs

Despite some initial injury concerns during the week, Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske has been able to name an unchanged lineup to farce the Waratahs this weekend.

The central franchise has enjoyed a mixed bag on tour to date, losing heavily against the Chiefs in their first match, before recording a resounding win over the Highlanders a week later. They will be keen to keep that momentum going into the third week, as they move to Sydney to begin the third week of their tour.

Particularly keen to impress will be scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius, who was in imperious form in Dunedin. Pretorius himself played for the Waratahs last year, before being released from his contract after he was deemed “not up to scratch” by the Aussie outfit.

Cheetahs: 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Willie le Roux, 13 Johan Sadie, 2 Robert Ebersohn, 11 Raymond Rhule, 10 Johan Goosen, 9 Sarel Pretorius, 8 Phillip van der Walt, 7 Pieter Labuschagne, 6 Frans Viljoen, 5 Francois Uys, 4 Lodewyk de Jager, 3 Lourens Adriaanse, 2 Adriaan Strauss (captain), 1 Trevor Nyakane.
Replacements: 16 Ryno Barnes, 17 Coenie Oosthuisen, 18 Rynhard Landman, 19 Heinrich Brüssow, 20 Piet van Zyl, 21 Riaan Smit, 22 Ryno Benjamin.

  • @McLovin (Comment 1) : let’s hope so. Really bleak that we’re not going to get a chance to cane the Tahs this year. That loss last year has left a bitter taste

  • @robdylan (Comment 2) : Hope so, but I see one win for SA this weekend

And wouldn’t be shocked if it’s zero wins. :|

Obviously would love to be wrong.

  • @robdylan (Comment 7) : why would they want to leave though? Surely the both starters for club and country and bizz has the chance to get his no1 spot back.

  • @shaniboi (Comment 8) : you don’t think it’s just perhaps possible that the French might pay them, say, a proper f*ckload more money than the Sharks can?

  • Bismark confirmed in a radio interview that they are meeting agents in Durban tomorrow.

lets be honest, any club in the world with the finances should be chasing the brothers now that their contracts are up for renewal.

  • @Salmonoid (Comment 10) : it’s a no-brainer… and I’m pretty sure French agents are all over Beast, Alberts, Kanko, Daniel, Lambie, Steyn, Pietersen, Mvovo and so on all the time too.

That doesn’t mean the players concerned are about to leave, though. Bismarck himself apparently said in this interview that he doesn’t want to leave Durban.

  • @robdylan (Comment 11) : True, apparently they have not yet had offers from the Sharks yet but Im sure they will be forthcoming, might as well get all your other offers together before meeting with the one you really want to play for.

  • @robdylan (Comment 13) : ag Rob don’t bother it gives them something to do later. I think it’s only 5-10% chance of them leaving as I do think they would like to be close to home a.k.a. Bethlehem.
