DHL Stormers coach Allister Coetzee and captain Jean de Villiers looked 2 very relieved figures at Saturdays post match press conference, the Stormers had managed to see off the challenge from a Sharks side they had lost 2 in the second round of the competition and who looked to be building up some momentum while the Stormers had only a 2 from 6 win return going into the match.

Coetzee was well aware of the amount of pressure he and his charges were under was pleased by the attitude displayed by the team, especially the youngsters who had to front up at Newlands with 42 000 fans desperate to have their team win. Coetzee had to use a large number of reserve players in Saturdays game, Michael Rhodes started at blindside flank while rookies Gerbrand Grobelaar, Gary van Aswegen and Martin Bezuidenhout got to stretch their legs, the coach pointed out that he was especially pleased with the reserve hooker as he had earned respect in the dressing room after not only performing well in the set piece but by showing great heart as well as a good bit of gas to chase a kick downfield that would have certainly been a Sharks try had he not made the effort.

The Stormers have a bye this weekend before heading onto their Australasion tour which will see them taking on the Hurricanes, Blues, Waratahs and ending off with a fixture against the Rebels , a schedule that is a sight more favourable than what the Cape side has had to endure up to now. In what is also completely unusual news out of Newlands the Stormers now also have a raft of players returning from injury, Bryan Habana, Rhynhardt Elstadt ,Scarra Ntubeni and Gerhard van den Heever have all been cleared by the medical team while Deon Fourie who left the field with concussion will be ready to start the first tour game.

The Stormers tour down under: Friday 26 April – Hurricanes 9:35am; Friday 3 May – Blues 9:35am; Saturday 11 May – Waratahs 11:40am and Friday 17 May 11:40 am

  • If the Stormers dig deep we can quite possibly win at least 3 of the 4 matches on tour.

Has a SA team ever won all their tour matches down under??

  • @Big Fish (Comment 4) : They don’t have the toughest opponents on tour – Rebels they should get a 5 pointer, Waratahs they should be able to beat, and I also see them taking at least one of the Hurricanes or Blues.

We on the other hand have the Chiefs and Reds (who I just can’t see us taking in our current state) plus the Highlanders and Force who we should beat.

  • I don’t believe the stormers willbe able to beat the blues or the ‘canes en ek sal ligtig wees vir die ‘tahs dis n monster wat jy nie will wakker maak nie.

As for the sharks I don’t see us winning against either the chiefs or reds and I would be wary of the force potential banana peel back home.

I do hope i’m wrong though

  • @VinChainSaw (Comment 9) : jeez, the amount of crap I picked up from the twitter-illiterati who didn’t read that post, but went mashuga over the headline. Sigh. People don’t get irony these days. Especially in the age where you’re considered “intelligent” if you can manage to read 140 characters.
