Two members of the Sharks XV will fly to Australasia to join up with the Sharks touring party, with yet another Lions also set to join the party.

In a bit of excellent news, wing Sibusiso Sithole has been given a reprieve and will join the team as replacement for the injured Andries Coetzee, while Danie Mienie (loosehead prop) will benefit from the misfortune to strike Allan Dell and will tour as loosehead prop in his stead.

Lions prop (and Bok tourist) JC Janse van Rensburg will also join up with the team as soon as he can; apparently, he’s been in France tying up a deal with Bayonne.

  • @war1 (Comment 5) : Speaking of the latter, he simply has to start next week. We need a 6.

  • @robdylan (Comment 6) : Agree we desperately need to compete more at the breakdown…hopefully Deysel can also help in this regard and Derrick too…i just hope he can learn the calls and stuff fast enough to be named in the side.

  • @robdylan (Comment 6) : @Bokhoring (Comment 8) : Deysel, Minnie and Kankowski would be my starting combination…for the moment though (since Kanko’s “off-form)I’d play Coetzee at 8. Keegan Daniel needs a break to get his skills back…

  • @ChrisS (Comment 10) : I was also thinking about Coetzee at 8, although he must be so confused about his role after playing all over the loose trio.

Problem is who to make captain then?

  • So pleased that Danie Mienie has made the call up…..just wish Francois Kleynhans or Brynand Stander would get the green light instead of always drawing from other Unions….

  • @Bokhoring (Comment 11) : Maybe FS again? But then again I am not sure on this one either as Plum backed him in the start of the season just to turn on him.

Maybe make oom Jannie? he has to play every game we play anyways.
Maybe its time to look long term and make Lambie captain.

  • Mmmm I’m sorry about Dell as I wouldve like to see how the lad can play, but I think a front row of J.C, Cooper and Herbst is a mouthwatering one.

  • Let me just say it: Smit Cooper Herbst front 3 against Chiefs with Jannie on bench. Smit to captain side for rest of the season.

  • @Uli (Comment 13) : I wouldn’t make Steyn the captain. He can’t handle the pressure and therefore makes questionable decisions and goes into conservative mode. I have never looked at Jannie as a captain but it is possible as he is a very strong minded player and he is very experienced. Lambie is also an option especially in the long-term. As he is a leader already, being a flyhalf, I don’t think it would add to much pressure, maybe just make him more independent when play is not going. He is a viable option. In the event though that Keegan is left out due to form, which is highly unlikely, either Deysel or Lambie would be my choice (more likely Deysel as the team is under pressure and Deysel has at least captained the CC side, leave Lambie for a time when the team in settled).

Does anybody have the full (and updated) squad list?

  • Very excited to see the other Minnie heading over the oceans. Tzaneen may soon have another SR player. Seems all we can produce this side is props and fast bowlers though

Jajaja I also know he plays 3 but both Jannie and Herbst can play 1 and if need be Danie Minie is also there.

  • @robdylan (Comment 19) : Hey Rob something seems strange, what is JC doing in France? Did he not say at the start of the season that he’s not going anywhere on a loan deal as he will repay the lions for picking him so he will stay and play in the lion challenge? If he’s in the market now what’s the chances of the Sharks getting him to Durban?

  • I feel uncomfortable with us loaning such a huge chunk of the Lions players. Do we really have no one else? Wouldn’t it be better to get someone from the Vodacom Cup and maybe develop them?
