The Mighty Stormers team has been announced this morning and the good news for all Cape rugby supporters is that… wait, not all Cape rugby supporters follow the Stormers (ja Cape Kroesaders, julle moffies)

As I was saying, the good news is that Bryan Habana is back in the side to take on the Hurricanes in the Stormers’ first Super Rugby tour match of 2013. Kick off is on Friday at 9:35am (SA time)

Habana returns to his favoured position on the left-wing which sees Gio Aplon make the switch to the other side. Promising young centre/winger Damian de Allende drops to the bench.

The only other change to the starting team sees Pat Cilliers start at tighthead while Frans Malherbe drops out of the 22 due to a slight ‘niggle’ he picked up against the Sharks two weeks ago.

Another boost to the Stormers team sees Scarra Ntubeni (hooker), Rynardt Elstadt (lock/flank) and Nic Groom (scrumhalf) return to the bench for this all important match.

Here is the team:

15. Joe Pietersen
14. Gio Aplon
13. Juan de Jongh
12. Jean de Villiers (c)
11. Bryan Habana
10. Gary van Aswegen
9. Dewaldt Duvenage
8. Duane Vermeulen (vc)
7. Michael Rhodes
6. Siya Kolisi
5. Andries Bekker
4. De Kock Steenkamp
3. Pat Cilliers
2. Deon Fourie
1. Steven Kitshoff

Bench:
16. Scarra Ntubeni
17. Brok Harris
18. Rynhardt Elstadt
19. Nizaam Carr
20. Nic Groom
21. Louis Schreuder
22. Damian de Allende

Referee: Steve Walsh (Australia)

  • At his stage I probably have to hope that the Cheetahs and Bulls keep on winning. Sharks and Stormers pretty much blew it. Unless they keep winning everything from here onwards but with both teams still having to tour…
