Reinach hurt, Steyn cited

The blows continue to hit the beleaguered Sharks, with two more pieces of bad news after this morning’s loss to the Chiefs.

Francois Steyn has been cited for an illegal ruck entry in the 78th minute of the Hamilton clash, an offence which the citing officer has decided met the “red card threshold” for foul play. Steyn will attend a disciplinary hearing next week and given the even-handed nature of New Zealand justice, should expect to cop a ban of some sorts, I’d say.

The other, worse, development concerns scrumhalf Cobus Reinach. It’s believed that the ankle injury he sustained with 10 minutes to go this morning has ended his participation in the tour. We have heard that Rovers scrumhalf Tian Meyer is on his way over to join the side, but this development has yet to be officially confirmed.

  • Send Kankowski over to play on the wing, with Lindeque at 13.

  • Hope Lindeque gets a chance at 13. Odwa needs to be “rested”.

  • To say that we are screwed probably understates matters.

  • The ref needed to open his eyes and look at the countless incidents where Shark defenders where taken out meters away from rucks. I recall Pat Lambie being tackled about 2 m behind a ruck – still on his way to the ruck. Cleaning out is one thing, but it should only be allowed on players actually taking part in the ruck.

  • Hmmm. Any idea where we can see the Steyn incident?

Never mind, found it in the highlights. Holy crap they think that deserves a red?!?! What’s wrong with them? I thought he might be cited for accidentally kicking their fullback in the nuts.
