After the bruising 22-25 loss at the hands of the Highlanders, Sharksworld cornered Kyle Cooper for his thoughts on the evening – as well as his first tour away with the Sharks.
SW: Well first of all commiserations on tonight’s result, the dressing room resembles a war-zone in there at the moment!
KC: Yeah, it was very physical out there tonight, probably one of the more physical games this season – and the body’s really feeling it. At the end (of the game) the boys really put it in and we went for the win as opposed to the draw and it didn’t pay off but we felt we went down fighting!
SW: I imagine it is a pretty somber dressing room after that encounter – especially with also seeing Francois (Steyn) and Lubabalo (Mtembu) in the tunnel – there are obviously more injuries to deal with – you guys are having a horror run!
KC: Yes, we have had a bad run, it’s crazy really and it looks like there are a few more tonight but we are going to stick together – we have a tight group and we will be back next week.
SW: We watched you guys last week against the Chief and we thought that with the way you were freshening up a few key players – the feeling was that you may be targeting the Highlanders match – was that always the plan prioritising the points here.
KC: Well that was the plan we are always looking to freshen guys up and we knew that the Chiefs were going to be hard to beat. Plum rung the changes this week – and it didn’t come off but we will take the one point.
SW: On your way home – your next stop is the Reds and they are never easy up there – plus they are travelling quite well at home.
KC: Well it is my first tour so everything we do is a bit new to me, we do have however a lot of youngsters and everyone is keen to learn and step-up – so hopefully with the travel – I think we will have a light week – freshen up a bit, keep off our feet, get the bodies right and hopefully have a good game next week.
SW: More on your first season you look like you have slotted in there quite seamlessly.
KC: I have been at the Sharks through all the age-groups Under 19, Under 21 Vodacom and its been nice. Now I have been given this opportunity – I feel like you say that I have slotted in and I really enjoy playing with the boys.
SW: Having Bismarck in the wings must help you?
KC: Yes, definitely when I started I had John Smit helping me out but now he has moved on. So now I have fallen under Bissy and it is always enjoy able to learn from other people
SW: Now goals for the rest of the season – I guess you will be hoping that these Highlanders can take this form to the Republic and do the Sharks some favours by taking some scalps over there.
KC: Like the Highlanders we can only take it week by week. Like them we will be trying very hard to get a win under our belts next time out!
SW: So after this set-back tonight do you feel the spirit are still high in the camp?
KC: We are obviously a bit despondent tonight, but hopefully we will be able to sleep that off. Tomorrow we will get together and travel and start again fresh on Monday.
SW: Well safe travels and keep your good season going Kyle and thanks very much for talking to Sharksworld.
KC: Thank you – I appreciate it!Tweet
