Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske has lost a key man in Lappies Labuschagne, ahead of this weekend’s Bloemfontein clash with the Hurricanes.

Labuschagne injured his elbow in the win over the Kings 10 days ago and is replaced at blindside flank by Frans Viljoen, in the only change to the run-on side.

Former Blitzbok Boom Prinsloo comes onto the bench in the number 19 jersey.

  • Lappies has been key, but even though the Cheetahs don’t boast the depth of the Bulls, Sharks and Stormers, we have been lucky in terms of injuries this year. In addition, we don’t lose much in terms of quality with Viljoen as a replacement. In fact in terms of the envisaged game plan against the Hurricanes, Viljoen fits the bill perfectly.

Expect lots of driving mauls of lineouts, and a kicks for territory out of the Cheetahs half. The ball will likely only see alot of air, in the Canes half, or off turnover possession.

Naka and hawies have kept changes to a minimum, and have paced themselves through the tough initial section without a bye, they are now handily placed.

Some tough matches ahead, but we play the Reds on their 1st match on tour, and maybe a tough encounter against the Sharks can wear them down. Then the Kings away, and it seems the bubble has burst in Kings country. Then the Bulls at home, a week after their match against the Sharks in Durban.

It seems the Sharks have become our ally, but could also become our greatest challenge if the put the Bulls away twice lol.

    Goooooooo Sharks, and Goooooo Cheeetahs!
