Plumtree – season is over

Good news Sharks fans – we’re just two thirds of the way through the 2013 Super Rugby season and our coach has declared that the side’s play-off hopes are “dead”.

After a fifth straight defeat, this time against a Reds outfit that won easily in Brisbane despite slacking off the second half, the coach had nothing to add other than the usual and predictable pair of excuses, namely blaming injuries and blaming the players.

“I think we’re dead now. It’s just been a terrible season for us,” Plumtree told Australian web site Sportal. He added, “there’s some individuals there that just let themselves down big time.”

So there you have it. Any ideas, Plum? Anyone else? No?

All right then. Off to play golf.

  • Slow clap. At least he didn’t say he’s focussing on next years comp. Think he knows he’s probably not going to be around that long…

  • Useless leadership uses those under them as the scapegoat for their mistakes and shortcomings.

At least one thing old PdV never did, I can’t remember him ever blaming his players or shaming them in public. He’d make a great team manager.

  • Nee Plum, Nee. Time for him to go abroad for a while.

I think my Plum-fandom basically came to an end when he dropped Kanko.

Then why keep choosing him every week as captain?

  • First the Sharks play like kindergarten girls and then Saracens roll over and play dead against Saints. I have no luck with rugby teams.

I’ll bet Toulouse go down to Toulon as well. Would. Be. Juuuust. Great.

  • There is no way we will play in that relegation match against the Lions. Here is why I say so:

In the current state we will presume that we will bend the knee to the Bulls x2 and the Blues so that leaves us to target the Force and the Kings plus our bye.

The Kings will not beat the Bulls and neither the Stormers x2 so they will target the Cheetahs and the Sharks plus their bye.

If both teams manages 2 loosing bonus points plus their bye we will be on 35 and they will be on 26 still 9 points adrift. Depending on how steep this downhill of the Cheetahs are, I doubt they will loose to the Kings but even if they do it will come down to the game against the Sharks to determine their fate an they will probably need to win with 4 tries and 50 points.

  • @King Shark (Comment 17) : Your wish has a very good chance of coming true. Toulouse is as soft in the head as the Sharks.

Having said that, Toulouse has at least won the Heineken Cup 4 times, so not quite as brittle upstairs as us.

  • Good day to everyone, I am new to commenting but not the site. I think it is time I voice my opinion. Certain players think the are greater then the game, we have a clueless captain that fades away when the going gets tough.

Why should we as fans accept these mediocre and failed seasons year in and out.I wish my boss would pay me there salaries to fail every year. I think it is time for Plumtree to go and hopefully Smit would make some much needed changes. At the Sharks current rate I won’t be surprised if the tackle bags score tries against us in practice. Sharks groete

  • @SharksRTB (Comment 25) : Nah the Sharks will probably smack every team in front of them for the remainder of the competition, just to P.. us off. Cant you hear Mr Plumtree say “we ended nicely, playing some great footie at the backend of the comp and would like to carry that momentum into the Currie Cup and hopefully getting the results” and ending it off with “everybody knows how important the Currie Cup is in the Republic, with a rich history and lots of pride so we would like to win it again to thank our loyal fans and that is our main focus for now, cheers mate”

  • Apropos of nothing, here’s five things I did this weekend that was more fun than watching the Sharks in 2013:
    1) Shopping for cosmetics for my wife
    2) Tuned in the car radio and got caught unawares by a blast of Jacaranda FM
    3) Called out to work
    4) Changed my nine-month old son’s nappies
    5) Nursed a red wine hangover

  • Seems the Stormers and Sharks seasons are now done.

Both just need to now do enough to stay ahead of the Kings without losing anymore players to injury.

This part of the season sucks and what i really hate about Super Rugby. For half the teams there’s nothing left to play for now.
Would be great if there was a plate or something, but for teams like the Sharks and Stormers, there’s nothing left for the fans. Time to dust off the golf clubs!
