The Cheetahs have signed one of their old props as cover for the Currie Cup season.

Die Volksblad reports that Wian du Preez, who ran out for the Springboks once in 2009, is back in Bloemfontein to cover the front row.

The Cheetahs, who have two props with the Sprignboks, and might be without them for the duration of the Currie Cup, have made a plan to bring in experienced cover. Lourens Adriaanse is a third prop lost to the Cheetahs as he is actually contracted to Griquas.

Du Preez has been plying his trade in Ireland, playing for Munster for the past three years.

The other props that could be considered for the No 1 jersey are Caylib Oosthuizen, Schalk van der Merwe and Charles Marais.

  • Cheetahs are looking well set for the Currie Cup, and i guess the majority of the injured Sharks will be back, so it will be a tough tournament again. It all comes down to the reserve strength, after the boks get withdrawn.

Props: Wian du Preez, Caylib oosthuizen, Scahlk vd Merwe, Charl Marais, and Rossouw de Klerk. Junior bok TH Luan de Bruin could also be considered.
Hooker: Hercu liebenberg, Torsten van Jaarsveld, and Jacques du Toit
Locks: Martin Muller, Lood de Jager, Uys, Walti Vermeulen, and Andries Ferreira
Flanks: Brüssow, Lappies, Frans Viljoen, Boom Prinsloo, Tertius Daniller, Phillip vd Walt, Neill Jordaan
    SH: van Zyl and Pretorius
    FH: Watts, Smit
Centers: Ebersohn, Piet Lindeque, Sadie, Joubert Engelbrecht
Wings: Rhule, Benjamin, Jacobs, maybe Cornal Hendriks
    FB: Daniller, Nico Scheepers

  • @robdylan (Comment 12) : No he is a TH, played there for the Juniors against the Yanks, with Beerwinkel at LH. Dunno, Sharks will be strong too.

Bulls will have the pick of Swanepoel, Pollard, and Rohan Janse van Rensburg to pick from in the midfield. Though Pollard might shift back to 10
