French team Stade Francais have announced the signing of Sharks utility back Meyer Bosman on a two-year deal.

Bosman is said to be linking up with the Paris club – the same one that has recently signed Bok flyhalf Morne Steyn – on completion of this year’s Super Rugby season.

Fans need to bear in mind that French sides are often very quick to announce signings as official, even when they may not be so. We have approached the Sharks to clarify the situation regarding Meyer and will update you all as soon as we have confirmation.

Another player linked wit a French switch is Louis Ludik, who is apparently negotiating with recently-relegated Agen. Again, there has been no official confirmation from either the Sharks or Ludik’s agent as to whether he will leave teh Sharks, notwithstanding a confirmation of the move on the French side.

  • Dammit no man, ludik is our best full back currently. And I for one like bosman. This, if true, is seriously sad news indeed.

I guess the thought of Pienaar returning and Bosman leaving makes me excited :)

  • Nothing wrong with this. If a player isn’t in Springbok contention, we may as well bring a youngster through the ranks. Great to hear that the likes of Fisher & Zeilinga are with the Super Rugby squad now.

But if Marius Joubert now starts in the Currie Cup, we may as well open the gates for our best youngsters to leave

  • Bosman provided decent cover at 10 / 12 especially with Tim / Frans out injured.

Ludik would be more of a loss though – he was about the only Sharks back that put in a decent performance at the start of the S15 this year.

  • Best of luck MB, you’ve done well for us and we’ll miss you. Go make that cash up north. If Ludik goes, we’ll have to procure Willie Le Roux or Andries Coetzee. Hope their contracts are coming to end with their unions.

  • @Uli (Comment 18) : youngsters, but that’s what the Currie Cup is about these days.

Must say, if Meyer does go, the good news for me is that we should see a lot of Fred Zeilinga at flyhalf.

  • @robdylan (Comment 22) : No doubt, but Wilde Willie is well aware that the Cheetahs are just about the only team in SA that will give him the freedom to play as he sees it.

Bulls will definately not give him that freedom, and I seriously doubt the WP will. He is a “poor defender” onthou!

Besides, the agreement the Cheetahs have with Griquas, is that they get 1st option top sign players if Griquas don’t offer them a contract.

Besides, Willie enjoys playing with the most enterprising Super 15 team in South Africa, and the Cheetahs good performance will go along way in retaining such stars.

  • Look, let’s be brutally honest here. A team with Bosman in it is not going to lift the Super trophy. This is not a troubling development.

  • I appreciate the job that Meyer has done for us. I am slightly concerned about our depth at flyhalf as Butch will also leave after this season. That means that Zeilinga and Tjoppie will have to cover Pat.
