The Rugby League World Cup starts in late October, but the sports betting action has already begun and you can get information about odds for the different teams taking part in it from most of the top online bookmakers. The tournament doesn’t attract the same degree of media attention as the Rugby Union one, but for fans of the sport – as well as rugby league betting – this will be the sporting highlight of 2013. So which teams are actually in contention to win the tournament, and who should you put your money on?

Australia are well out in front as favourites for the 2013 tournament, in the eyes of the bookies, and their pre-tournament odds of 1/3 are formidably low. Most observers feel that there are three teams with the quality to win it – New Zealand and England being the other two – but there is little doubt that Australia are the nation to beat. They overcame the current World Cup holders New Zealand in the recent one-off matches, and the presence of former Kiwi James Tamou only makes them stronger. England, at 8/1 are actually the most popular bet just now though, partly because the odds are better, partly out of patriotism and partly because they are seen as having a genuine (if more outside) chance. However it can be difficult to make accurate outright bets so far in advance and you may decide it would be better to play rugby games at online casino sites like www.luckynuggetcasino.com/au/online-blackjack/ just now.

Rugby themed slots games are growing in number and popularity all the time, with one of the most recent arrivals being the Odd Shaped Ball five reel slot – which is designed to have a distinct World Cup theme. As you might imagine from the name, it takes a jokey view of the game in the rugby-based reel icons (including one of a streaker), and another rugby slots game that also features amusing reel icon graphics is Rough Rugby. Here alongside the animations of players, boots and balls, you will find the likes of medical kits and jockstraps – making either of these games perfect for rugby fans able to see the funny side of the game.

  • @JD (Comment 4) : Hope not. The Rhinos are the Bafana Bafana of league rugby.

  • rhineshark problem is that league rugby does not really have a big following in SA. In England Oz and NZ league rugby is as big as union.
