Good rugby, good betting

The weekend is upon us, and it brings the return of Super Rugby action and some Sevens World Cup rugby. With that, we are able to make some decent money, and not only on the rugby.

It starts this morning when the Chiefs host the Hurricanes. While the Chiefs are short favourites, you are able to find some value in backing them to lead at half time and lead at the final whistle. The Chiefs have not lost a game when leading at half time, and have not been behind at the break at home this season. At 6/10 odds on Marshalls World of Sport, that’s a nice return for a Friday morning.

Later today the Sevens World Cup kicks off, and I will summarise those odds at the end of this piece.

Tomorrow sees the Super Rugby continue in New Zealand as the struggling Highlanders host the Crusaders. At nearly 4/10, you can easily use this match to double into any of your other matches, to push the odds up nicely.

The majority of the Super Rugby matches this weekend happen in South Africa, with three matches on Saturday afternoon. The Sharks host the Blues in the opening fixture, then we head to Loftus where the Bulls host the Kings, before the Stormers host the Cheetahs in the match of the weekend.

While the Sharks vs Blues match is tricky to call, remember that the Sharks are unbeaten home and away against the Blues in 7 years, and while the Sharks are at odds with regards to coaching staff, we do have some players returning from injury, something that will surely help their cause. Should you like the Sharks, you can get 4/10 on the win, but if you fancy a Blues win the odds increase significantly to 23/10.

The Bulls vs Kings match is again a low odds encounter, with the Bulls heavy favourites. The Kings are 10/1 to win this match while the Bulls return is less than 1/10. The only way to make money on this match is to try the handicaps. A handicap is giving a team a head start and predicting the margin of victory. You can easily get 6/10 on the Kings to lose by less than 20 points, for instance.

In the match of the weekend, the Stormers are favourites to win the clash. Should you have an inkling that the Cheetahs are going to win this match, their 18/10 odds should tempt you into putting some cash on it.

As promised, there are several Sevens World Cup matches happening today, and Marshalls offers you odds on every match. Some matches are invariably one sided, but the handicap system, as explained above, will make life very interesting. For instance, the Blitzbokke are heavy favourites to beat hosts Russia, at odds of less than 1/10, but should you think we can win by more than 14 points, you can get a 9/10 return.

  • @JarsonX (Comment 3) :

It makes for entertaining viewing, but I don think the bookies are enjoying it so much!

Massive odds on some of those players to win it outright!
