Sharksworld are proud to be a media partner to ProSport International as they bring the Builders Sports Quiz to Durban on 24 July. We’ve been running a competition to select one lucky person to attend the event with Richard – seated at the media table, no less – and need your help to select that winner.

We selected our finalists based on the results of the trivia competition we ran last week. We’ve asked each of them to submit a short motivation as to why tey should be selected. Please have a read and then vote via the poll below as to who you think is most deserving.

We’ll announce the winner on Monday 22 July.

Finalist 1: Scott

“I am not one to try and ‘big’ myself up but in this case I will. I am sports mad. I don’t watch TV unless its sports related and hence have gained a fair amount of sports knowledge. From knowing that Phil ‘the power’ Taylor has won 14 out of the 17 PDC darts finals he has been in, to South Africa having place 3rd 4 times and 1st once in the 5 IRB junior world championships.

I am not only a mere vessel through which genius flows, I am also good looking and would be a great ‘face’ of Sharks World.

I would like to take this time to thank my parents for this opportunity and to Sharksworld for making me a finalist for the first time in my life!”

Finalist 2: Marno

“It would be an honour and a privilege for me to represent Sharksworld at this prestigious event. Not only do I love intellectual challenges, I am also incredibly passionate about sport trivia and this will be about as challenging as it gets!

The discipline and conditioning required to play modern day sport, as well as the moral responsibility sportsmen have off the field to communities and society to inspire and lead is probably why I am a die-hard sportsfan. Not many professions in the world get to influence politics, inspire youth, advocate peace, unite nations and create history. Sport has so many life changing lessons to teach and I’m always astounded by the competitiveness and perseverance of the human spirit to achieve. That’s why I love trivia, because knowledge of these superhuman achievements is an amazing mentor, and in the modern world, good, healthy principled leadership is in short supply.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I would literally grasp with both hands if I would be chosen to go! I’ve been following Richard on Sharksworld for the last few years, and it would be an incredible opportunity for me to both meet him and to rub shoulders with some of the best sporting minds in the province. It is a hugely exciting prospect to be part of this. It is any sports fan’s dream!”

Finalist 3: Caleb

“There was a thud, cold air and all I remember was waking up on Doctor Brauns operating table to receive stitches to a nasty 6cm gash to my left eye. What preceded that was a James Small obsessed 8 year old little boy playing a game of indoor rugby in his parents lounge, diving to score a match winning try and who was abruptly stopped by a 20 year old solid oak couch.

That was the start of a crazy love affair between myself and sport. As part of my recovery week off of school I spent my entire time watching tape after tape of old sports matches which my uncle had taped for my dad who lived in Namibia at the time. Rugby, squash, cricket you name it I watched it. Before long I was signing up to partake in all these sports. I still participate in a number of sports but now prefer been a spectator as well as trivia master to family and friends. I edit our work newsletter and contribute to a number of sports items regularly which I feel has been the ideal preparation for my participation in the Builders Sports Quiz. I aim to hoist the Sharksworld flag high and hopefully get recognised as the ultimate sports mad fundi.”
