Injury curse blights Griquas

Griquas coach Pote Human was forced to look on in horror as he lost yet another lock forward to a devastating injury against the Cheetahs last week. The broken arm that is set to sideline Hilton Lobberts for much (if not the rest) of the season is only one of his problems, however.

Ligtoring Landman, Jaco Nepgen and Jonathan Adendorff have already been confirmed as second row causalities, with only Nepgen likely to return in the short term. The loss of Lobberts comes in the wake of another bitter blow; the citing of Australian import Rory Arnold for an alleged bite during Saturday’s defeat at the hands of the Cheetahs. Human has already been forced to call up one club player in former WP training squad member Patrick O’Brien and will now surely scour the country for additional options.

Human does seem to think it unlikely that Arnold will be found guilty, according to a report in Beeld; after all, he’s accused of biting Cheetahs hooker Ethienne Reynecke during his own try celebration…. a pretty bizarre thing to do, even for an Aussie!

Already, though, the joyous celebrations that followed round 1′s shock win in Durban seem but a distant memory for the Griquas squad, who have now lost four games on the trot and are firmly in the bottom part of the Premier Division log. They face the Lions in Kimberley this weekend, but will take some hope from the fact that most of their second-round games will be at home. Human’s most fervent wish, though, will be enough fit playing options to maintain Kimberley’s fortress reputation.

  • @Keagan_SHRKS4LIFE (Comment 1) : howzit.

No update from them yet…. I take it that things haven’t changed and that we ahve no fresh concerns after the weekend.

Du Toit must be close to a comeback this week or the next. Steyn is still out until the end of the month.

S’bura has his cast off, but I think he’s still got 2-3 weeks off.

Last time I spoke to Bresler, he said he was hoping to come back for the Griquas game.
