Blue Bulls coach Pine Pienaar has bolstered his tight five with experienced campaigners ahead of the weekend visit to Johannesburg, after watching his team somehow succumb to a 14-man Western Province outfit at Loftus last week.

Werner Kruger, Bandise Maku and Wilhelm Steenkamp will add Super Rugby experience to the creaking ship up front this week, although the backline looks to be going the other way, with experienced men like Waylon Murray (dropped) and Jurgen Visser (benched) out of favour this week. Pienaar does welcome back Bok Bjorn Basson at left wing, in place of Sampie Mastriet, while an injury-enforced change sees Tony Jantjies replace Handre Polalrd at flyhalf.

Under 21 hooker Jaco Visagie should earn a first cap this week, replacing the injured Bongi Mbonambi in the match 22,

15 Clayton Blommetjies, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 Ulrich Beyers, 12 Francois Venter, 11 Bjorn Basson, 10 Tony Jantjies, 9 Rudy Paige, 8 Jono Ross (captain), 7 Jacques du Plessis, 6 Wiaan Liebenberg, 5 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 4 Paul Willemse, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Bandise Maku, 1 Morné Mellett.

Substitutes: 16 Jaco Visagie, 17 Frik Kirsten, 18 Grant Hattingh, 19 Jacques Engelbrecht, 20 Lohan Jacobs, 21 William Small-Smith, 22 Jurgen Visser

  • This is really embarrassing tbh. There is a lot of potential contracted but the worst half backs at the union are picked. Where is Schoeman?
It is also blatantly obvious that Kruger and Greyling are for 2 years now awful. Not for Mr. Pienaar it’s not. All the other props at the Bulls have outshone them sofar.
    Little wonder why players leave.
Man, I so disappointed in Pine, I’m almost willing to become a Shark.
