  • HM took Bismarck off far too early. As soon as he went off the whole sway of the game changed. I mean — INSTANTLY FROM THE MOMENT HE WENT OFF. We wld have gotten the try cos Bismarck would have pushed over the line with the rest of the scrum. Adriaan is good but not NEARLY as strong as Bismarck. Had he stayed on for the whole match we might have achieved the highest goal set for this match!!!!! Frustration plus!!!!!

I really hope Willem Alberts will be okay for next Saturday!!!

  • Indeed our best attacking game this year. First game my wife watched with me to the end. Fourie was once again very good.
Engelbrecht and Kruger for me were terrible and no one in the backline could tackle for some mysterious reason.
Did Strauss even find his jumpers ONCE? We lost all momentum with no first phase ball.
Etzebeth on Cruden and Kolisi on Nonu – great tackles.

  • Disappointed in the Bok performance…we just flung the ball willy nilly ie. Wallaby rugby…instead of build the phases. Some very good tries and attacking intent shown (but tactically we were poor)

Kruger, Steyn, JJ (2nd half anyway), Zane were poor. Im really not Bull bashing here, but they really were. JJ, Steyn and Kruger terrible on defense and Kirchner still doesnt play intelligent rugby – committed for sure but not smart.

We need a 10 to match the level of play of du Preez (who at times was lazy).

  • Losing habana was a big blow .vermeulen had a huge game (going only on one viewing).
We dropped passes and fell off tackles, also some of the passes lacked accuracy.
    So tackling and handling.
Receiving of kick-offs also didnt inspire much confidence (perhaps missing andries bekker?).
Remember a line-out throw to the back where kolisi was beaten in the air by ab jumper (read?).how i miss juan smith,he was the best tail jumper in rugby whilst he was still playing imho.

  • Boks gifted the all blacks a try with halftime looming, running ball from inside their 22 in the 39th min only to lose it in contact.unnecessary 7 points given away (game awareness and protecting ball in contact).
Then with boks first penalty fdp couldve put more pressure on the nz line by attacking their line with ball in-hand -pass to alberts, perhaps.see how play develops from his carry, since we already had pen adv there.was the kick the wrong option?it was def a badly executed option since habana had no chance of getting to it.wasnt even put in the air in space for him to attack or at him as in a foot pass.

  • Jeez what a game. Bokke made far too many mistakes and our defense was poor to say the least. Ultimately the All Blacks showed why they are the World Champs. Thought Nigel Owens had a good game so we can’t blame him
Was a real pity Habana and Alberts were lost through injury. If HM doesn’t see this as a wake up call to his team selection he truly is blind to his favored BB players.

Bismark – the question in my mind is why…why did HM take him off? he is to me an 80minute man! a constant threat!

  • Poorly coached, basics are non existent.

The All Blacks scored one well worked try ,the Julian Savea/Keiran Reid try. The rest were a result of poor tackling from Morne Steyn ,JJE and poor cover defense from Kirchner.

Where are JD and the rest of the Morne Steyn apologists?

We are destroying young talent in Lambie when we bench him and Elton. These 2 need to be baptized. Win or lose. They need to go through this. Because come World Cup, they can do wonders…. Zane on the other hand… I would rather pick Hennie Deniller :)

  • Yesterday’s loss has given HM a “fail” mark for this year. Being unable to beat the ab’s at Ellis Park after they traveled back from Argentina is inexcusable.

How bad was Kruger…absolute disgrace of lock. HM was banking on FDP to make MS look good….oh how that plan backfired.

p.s.- I see Neil Powell has been announced as the new sevens coach….very good choice.

  • @Blue Centurion (Comment 84) : JJ terrible, are you a complete idiot, what game were you watching……he was awesome on attack and let me guess you are going to blame him for missing Barrett, when first it was Jean, followed by Morne who missed him.

  • @pienaar111 (Comment 85) : JJ terrible on defence…..how do you work that one out……Barrett was Morne’s man given he was the inside defender, not to mention the fact the Jean missed him first when he rushed out at him.

That is the only tackle JJ has missed in the last 3 tests.

How great was JJ with ball in hand today…..what about that break when he stepped inside Savea and then beat him on the outside and left him for dead, drawing the defender and delivering a perfect inside pass to Willie who nearly scored.

Guess you lot missed all this, much like the great line he took off Morne and running straight through Conrad Smith

  • @Saffex (Comment 103) : If you cant see how poor he is on defense then you are blind. However he isnt anywhere near as bad as Steyn and Kruger.

He dies with the ball to often on attack for my liking.

  • @Talent (Comment 106) : one missed tackle in 4 tests against Oz and NZ tells me that he is doing a damn fine job defensively and it also tells me know don’t have a bloody clue what you are talking about.

Daniel is not an 8′s backside and Kolbe has been good – what’s your point……that Kolbe should on the wing for the Boks and Daniel at 8……bwhaaahaaaa

  • @Saffex (Comment 107) : No point in arguing with you, its just sad how wrong you are.

There is more to defense than just making a tackle, which he is not particularly good at in any case. His biggest weakness on defense ,however ,is due to his inexperience in the position and poor understanding of how to shepherded ,shift and so on.

Anyway you couldn’t be more wrong about Keegan Daniel, he is without doubt the Sharks best 8. I feel some sort of empathy with you ,because I know you are just like every other dogmatic so called Rugby pundit in this country; brainwashed by every coach they’ve played under and appreciated at test level regarding size.

Please point out where exactly I said either of those players should start for the Boks?

  • @Talent (Comment 109) : As I said you clearly dont have a clue what you are talking about……I take it Jean’s rush out on Barrett, breaking the defensive line was down to his experience in the position, huh?

Yep, you dont play a 97kg player at 8, you dont see it in any other side in the game…..its basics, you need some physicality at 8. Daniel is your perfect linking openside flanker. Coetzee would make a far better 8 than Daniel and Kankan was a better 8. Mtembu would be better as well. And yes, I am in touch with the modern game, where size counts……other than in SA where quota selections sometimes necessitate the selection of smaller players

  • @Saffex (Comment 115) : The only ignorant one here is you.

JJ’s pathetic attempt at a tackle on Barrett should disqualify him from ever wearing a Bok 13 jersey again and that’s before talking about the brain implosion that lead directly to him being turned over and resulted in an AB try after the hooter in the first half.

If you are too stupid or biased to see that, notwithstanding his good attacking qualities with ball in hand, he is out of his depth defensively at international level at 13 then so be it.

Quite frankly he is out of his depth at Super rugby level in the midfield where he was third in the top 20 list for missed tackles in the 2013 super rugby rugby season with 34 missed – unacceptable for an international centre!

His defensive weakness is not mitigated by good performances in any of the areas that count such as tackles made, line breaks, try assists etc.

There was one world class 13 on the field on Saturday and unfortunately for us he was wearing a black jersey.

  • @steve (Comment 119) : I think he can improve his defense but test rugby is not where that should happen. I’m willing to wait and see if he works on that. To disqualify a player from the bokke for life for a single missed tackle is just silly. We will run out of eligible players very quickly.

  • @MysticShark (Comment 120) : True – perhaps he can improve his defence. I do acknowledge that he has some very good qualities on attack.

My point – which was probably a bit overstated in response to some of the belligerent nonsense in some previous posts – is that it is not currently up to international standard.

I subscribe to Disraeli’s famous view on statistics “lies, damned lies and statistics” so don’t believe that they should be the be all and end all of analysis but our defensive stats in the backs were poor against the AB on Saturday.

JJ made 3 tackles and missed 2 – not great but not as bad as Morne Steyn who made 5 and missed 5
Willie le Roux made 1 and missed 6
Zane Kirchner made 1 and missed 3
JdV was the best of our backs – made 4 missed 1

By contrast Conrad Smith made 11 tackles and missed 1.
