Johan Goosen is set to play at least 40 minutes in the semi-final clash between the Sharks and the Cheetahs this weekend.

According to Sport24.com, Goosen is set to play the second half after coming back from a lengthy lay-off last weekend. Goosen played 15 minutes in the Cheetahs’ win over the Bulls and impressed Naka Drotske to the point of further inclusion in the play-offs.

Drotske has told the Volksblad website that Elgar Watts will still start the match, with Goosen coming on at the start of the second half.

The Sharks will have their own juggling act in the flyhalf berth, with Butch James, Fred Zeilinga and Pat Lambie all fit to start the all-important semi-final.

  • I also agree to start with Lambie. Zelinga will fumble under pressure and we can’t afford to miss out on points

  • @SharkyGP (Comment 3) : On that point… Zelinga is by far our best kicker again… what to do? what to do?
But I feel lambie is much more in control of the game…

  • Lambie should start. Fred can come of bench and provide magic in the last 15 minutes.

  • Let’s first see if Goosen makes it to the game without pulling a hamstring or doing a knee in while getting on the team bus…

  • Its a no brainer that Lambie should start. Id say start him at 15 but SP Marais has been offering an attacking threat that I like from the back. Yes he makes the odd mistake-so does everyone in the Sharks side. Id also start McCloed as he has more experience than Reinach and Sarel Pretorius will be a handful. I must say Whitehead is good at 13 on defense but he isnt quick enough to exploit the gaps created so id switch Whitehead and Williams (not that it will happen just i would if i was coach.) I kno Keegan is highly rated but Botes has been so composed this year i think subbing him on sat was a mistake. Ourlineout will need to function a lot better this weekend. What has happened to the Sharks lineout these last couple years- eish

  • Start Lambie at flyhalf no question. Fred can come on if we are 15 points ahead.

  • @R Hayward (Comment 4) :
How on earth do you conclude that Fred is our best kicker?

He is a work in progress, but let’s not forget that he’s missed write a few sitters so far.

  • @Big Fish (Comment 9) : @Talent (Comment 10) : Ouens… is no big secret that the sharks haven’t had a top kicking fly halve sine joel! WE have been struggling in this department for the past 10 years! Our best kicking fly halve that I’ve seen for quite some time is fred!
Anyone care to through out some stats on this???

Fred Zeilinga or Fred Michalak, coz as far as I know, Michalak was our best kicker in some years!

  • Statistically this CC Butch is top dog with 16/18 = 88,8%, Fred 2nd with 30/46 = 65,2% and 3/6 drop goal attempts and Pat is 1/3 or 33,3%.
