O’Connor lost, for now

James O’Connor has given up on Australian rugby for the time being, opting to rather further his playing career in Europe.

O’Connor, who has had a rough couple of months off the field, with drinking incidents culminating in his Australian Rugby contract being thrown out the window.

O’Connor has reportedly informed Australian Rugby that he does not intend on playing Super Rugby next year, and is looking to broker a deal with a European team. This after Australian coach Ewen McKenzie had openly made a statement that he want O’Connor involved in his setup and is willing to help the player with a rehabilitation program. Even the Force have come forward and offered him a Super Rugby spot, when no other team was even interested.

O’Connor, who is only 23 years old, could still make another three World Cups, and could even still play for Australia in the 2015 World Cup, with McKenzie at the helm.

A stint away from the spotlight, away from the Australian media, might just be exactly what he needs to refocus himself on his rugby and return to Australia an even better player.

  • He’s been toxic to their national squad. Best for all parties involved. Let him go do some soul-searching in Europe.

  • He just needs to get off the hamster wheel for a while. And away from Kurtley Beale.

He’s a magnificent player, very young and still has a bright future ahead of him. Best fro all concerned if he removes himself from the cauldron for a couple of years.
With Aus Rugby in such dire straights, you cant help but think he’s a bit of a lightning rod for all Australian players currently.

JoC’s dad is a kiwi, mom is Seffrican and he grew up in Oz. He had the choice to represent any of the three and chose Oz. First mistake right there.

  • Maybe with the pay cut that all Oz players must take they will have less money for booze and other shit.
