Steyn gets fixed up

Frans Steyn will use his time at home to good effect, having minor surgery to his leg.

SA Rugbymag reports this morning that Frans Steyn, who failed to make the Springbok End of year tour squad, will use the time off to get his leg fixed properly. Steyn had surgery earlier in the year to release some pressure on a limb, something called compartment syndrome.

He is apparently having a scope done today to remove anything else that needs removing, which sees him out of action for at least three weeks.

Steyn will thus not be available as an injury replacement during the tour.

We would like to wish Steyn all the best in his recovery from this operation, and hope to see him back in action at the start of the Super Rugby season.

  • Did he fail to make the squad or did he not make it based on the fact that he needs a op?

  • Get better soon Frans. Wishing you all the best. A fit and raring to go Steyn will make us very dangerous come SR 2014. Pray none of our guys get injured on this end of year tour and no serious injuries next year. We need their entire squad fit and ready next year.

  • @Big Fish (Comment 4) : Ummmm, how many points did he leave out on field? BMT? What did he do any extra on the back of brilliant tic tacs and team play? Fred is still the future of the Sharks at 10

He was a bit dik at one stage, but he looked quite slim these last two matches.. I think he has lost quite a bit of weight!

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 11) : I definitly remember his dik stage and he is far from that now – in my view. I will put the jibes down to jealously and the lack of oxygen from the gagging that happened on Saturday.

  • @benji (Comment 12) :

It’s cool if you rate a player, but I would suggest you wait until he has had a couple of Super Rugby games under his belt.

We all really like Fred and I personally think he has loads of talent and it’s great that the Sharks now has two great Fly-halfs for the future, but completely skipping over the quality of the Bok player we already have that most people agree (not even including all the one eyed Sharks fans on this site) had a huge influence in both our Semi-final and final wins, really won’t help your credibility.

  • @GreatSharksays (Comment 6) : There’s bound to be a long term injury for at least one Sharks stalwart. It always happens – all for the sake of a dull, dubious win over Scotland.

I love my country and I love the Springboks, but I’m far more excited for next year’s Super Rugby tournament than the Green Bulls’ End of Year Tour.
