It may be a new year, but not much has changed in terms of player movement, with plenty of stars either confirming moves or being on the verge of big moves. This is what went down during the festive season.
The most recent of stories is that Rory Kockett has verbally agreed to join Toulon at the end of his Castres contract. Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal has made public comments to the effect that Kockett has agreed to join the club at the end of the 2014 season.
A confirmed move to Toulon is that of James O’Connor, who left Australia under a cloud during 2013, ending up at London Irish for a short stint, financing his negotiations with the Top 14 side.
Further player movement to Toulon, although only in the initial rumour stage, is that Leigh Halfpenny is also on his way to the French side. The French side is fast becoming the Chelsea of the rugby world, we can only hope that the players are kept happy and talent is not wasted.
Other big news, although not very surprising, is the fact that Sonny Bill Williams will be returning to Rugby Union, and yes, you guessed it, just in time to represent the All Blacks at the next World Cup. Williams has agreed to join the Chiefs at the beginning of the 2015 season, for at least two years. Whether he actually stays on beyond the World Cup year, remains to be seen.
Troubled All Black Zac Guildford has also confirmed a move to Europe, Clermont bagging the talented winger. It is reported that he has signed a two year deal with the club.
That’s all we have for now, but the mill will certainly be back soon with more confirmed reports and outrageous rumours.Tweet
