After a far-too-short, but mercifully quiet and uneventful, Christmas break, the Sharks Super Rugby and Vodacom Cup squads return to pre-season training this week.
With the winds of change continuing to blow through the union, the air of excitement as palpable. John Smit’s tenure as CEO may have got off to the best possible start with last year’s Currie Cup triumph, but with yet another coaching change since then, time is incredibly short for Jake White and his team, if he’s to get the players into his way of thinking ahead of the tournament kick-off in February.
No shortage of hard work, in other words, awaits the Super Rugby squad with mere weeks to go before their first major outing – a warm up against Saracens in the UK on 25 January.
New Vodacom Cup coaches Deon Kayser and Albert van den Berg also have their work cut out for them as they prepare a squad comprising mostly age-group players for the rigours of yet another competition that has never been won by a Sharks side.
Welcome back to the grindstone, Sharks. We’re expecting big things this year!Tweet
