  • With Lwazi being left footed and Ndungane right footed it would make sense the switch but they have always preferred the other way round. Good to see the same side, lets hope the combos can gel a bit better. The Canes are def not an easy side to play. They are physical and have game breakers in their backline. Id love to see the ball get to Frans Steyn a bit quicker – he def looks like he is in the mood this year.

  • Nice to see.

Will be interesting to know whether the Sharks went 2 games unchanged the entire season last year.
    I seriously doubt they did.
I must say, as limited as Plum perhaps was, he really was hamstrung by the injury count last year.

He seems to be working wonders with the Irish pack. Although he always was a better forward coach than head coach.

  • @John Galt (Comment 7) : He is a great forward coach – as long as that is all he concentrates on. When he tried his hand at head coach, the Sharks forward play also suffered.

I would not have mind him staying at the Sharks as forward coach.

  • @John Galt (Comment 7) : Well, you really hit the nail on the head there. Plum’s main strength was as a forwards coach and those guys he had as backline coaches were complete pretenders. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that the backline were badly coached and devoid of ideas and moves. Plum was really unlucky with the injuries last year but you could see there was more to it than that. The Kankowski debacle last year, choosing Keegan Daniel as captain, who wasn’t always a first-choice player, rigidly sticking to older players instead of bringing the younger guys through. Plum’s main weakness was his inflexibility. You simply can’t have a head coach like that.

  • Guys, don’t write off the Hurricane’s backline. On paper, they are way more mobile and adventurous than ours. If they get some turnover scraps they will make us pay. It will be up to our pack to smash theirs into submission.

  • @markm (Comment 20) : I agree. If we kick bad in all aspects of the game we shall lose this one. We can pin them back with a combination of good line kicks and forward play. Our back line can match them but we can’t defend them for too long at a time.

  • our kicks last week (exit strategy) was not so good. How many times did SP not kick the ball out. was frustrating sitting there watching it live. The bulls made some good yards whenever we couldnt find touch. Cant miss this week.

If I was REALLY picky, I don’t know whether I would have Jean, Alberts AND Coetzee in my match day 23.
All too similar and although Coetzee surprised many in his play at 6 last week, he wasn’t up against any accomplished fetcher types. He might come unstuck a bit against the likes of Hooper, Todd, McCaw, Stegman or a Gill etc etc.

Reckon Keegan would be great to have come on in the last 20.

It’s a good thing that he has “Hosepipe” up his sleeve, because nobody really knows what to expect from him. He might just be the Ace up the Sharks sleeve, able to completely bamboozle the Canes in the last 30mins.

  • @vanmartin (Comment 46) : I would have like to have seen some more rotation from the bench in the Bulls match and even this week for the bench…every game has a few merits to selection(a player like Swiel might be a saver bet against the cheethas than the Bulls) and having Esterhuisen come on from the bench for a 40min or Swiel/Terra might be good for experience. Starting with your starting lineup and rotating the bench around a bit more. Peet back in the side for a few minutes. if the team understands the dynamic and plan with regard to rotation it cant cause the players to feel un secure or unconfident about selection criteria. just a hypothetical Brain FART….
