Embattled DHL Stormers coach Allister Coetsee has once again had to name a much changed starting lineup to the one which took to the field in the previous fixture.

Coetsee has made 7 changes sto his starting lineup, with Nizaam Carr moving to openside flank and Deon Fourie shifting to hooker the most notable changes, in the backline
Damian De Allende has been shifted to the wing at the expense of Kobus van Wyk while Jean De Villiers moves to his favourite position of inside centre and is partnered by Juan de Jongh on his outside.

Ruan Botha failed a late fitness test which sees 20 year old Jurie Van Vuuren elevated to the starting lineup, Van Vuuren made his senior debut last week as a second half replacement against the Brumbies.

Tazz Fuzani and Skihumbizo Nothse who only arrived in Australia this week as cover have been included in the matchday 23.

Peter Grant has somehow managed to keep the starting 10 jersey after a less than impressive showing last week. Coetsee will be hoping that the pivot was just having a bad day at the office and is on song this week, with the much more mobile pack Coetsee will be looking to Bash to be his old self and be well aqcuainted with the gain line.

The DHL Stormers team to face the Reds

15 Gio Aplon, 14 Damian de Allende, 13 Juan de Jongh, 12 Jean de Villiers (c), 11 Sailosi Tagicakibau, 10 Peter Grant, 9 Louis Schreuder, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Siya Kolisi, 6 Nizaam Carr, 5 Michael Rhodes, 4 Jurie van Vuuren, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Deon Fourie, 1 Steven Kitshoff.
Subs: 16 Stephan Coetzee, 17 Oliver Kebble, 18 Brok Harris, 19 Tazz Fuzani, 20 Sikhumbuzo Notshe, 21 Nic Groom, 22 Demetri Catrakilis, 23 Jaco Taute

  • When last did Deon Fourie get a start at hooker? Honestly can’t recall.

  • @Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 2) : Don’t you think your team’s biggest problem is the 9/10 combo? (emphasis on 9, though Grant really didn’t shower himself in glory past Saturday, he’s probably less of a problem going forward)

Look at the positive and negative impact the 9/10 axis has had on the Bulls, the Lions, and the Sharks (-vs bulls).

  • Correct, Grant had a clanger last week but i think(hope) he will be much improved this time round.

I’m not the biggest fan of either Groom or Screuder although i prefer Grooms style. That said Schreuder has the better kicking game thats why he was selected

  • Deon at hooker plus one flank and a rookie at lock. Hope Deon can hit Vermeulen at the back.

  • There was one game where you could hear Bekker shout “Ag nee Brannas”

  • @Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 7) : Ja – another long day ahead at the office for the Stormers.

If they loose this week it will surely be the worst tour they’ve had in a long time.

  • @Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 10) : There was the one game where a depleted Stormers team with De Kok on the wing beat the Blues (I think) away and scored 4 tries. There is always a chance the team can pull of another upset.

  • That looks a very suspect side. v/Vuuren at lock is far too small and poor de Allende finds himself wasted on the wing again

The sooner Coetzee gets the boot the better

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 18) : Are you saying de Allende isn’t good. I mean, while I think he needs to be anywhere in the starting line-up if available, you can’t deny that he is a good player, especially at centre.

  • @David12246 (Comment 19) : Not at all, I actually rate him. Its just that I will always choose the a 12 13 of Jean and Juan over a centre pairing of Damian and someone else
