Lewies gets Bok nod

SA Rugby have announced a late call-up to the Springbok training squad for Cell C Sharks lock Stephan Lewies.

Captain Jean de Villiers has been ruled out of next week’s camp due to a knee strain and rather than bring in another midfielder, the Bok management have opted to have a look at 22-year-old second-rower Lewies, since the number 5 position is a little light on depth.

Big congrats to Stephan, who thoroughly deserves his call-up after a great tour.

  • Oooooh snap….great reward for the youngster, whom didn’t give up after missing out on a call-up last weekend.

Perseverance and good old honest hard work pays off for yet another so-called “no-name” Shark.

So who will captain the Boks….

Just like Marcel, this guy works his way to the top, and I believe that he’ll show the Boks his worth.

It’s amazing that the loss of a class player like PSdT which had us all a little worried ends in an almost meteoric rise for a ‘nobody’ player. That’s one of the things I love about this game. It always holds a few great surprises no matter how wrong its administrators gets it at times.

  • Are there limits on the number of players that can be invited to the training camps? If not, then I battle to follow the logic behind this decision. If depth at 5 is a concern, Lewies should have been there form the start.

Actually, purely on merit, Lewies should have been there from the start.

Having said that, a loss to the Stormers at home, given the respective log positions, would be unacceptable.

SAAD has admited this as being the case sais too early for finger pointing, let the audit take place and they will then make everything public. Its all in Sunday’s tribune, I think earlier on on this thread someone posted the link to the Tribune article.

  • @Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 51) : I’m no expert…but the way I understand it, it depends on exactly what they find:
    - if individual directors or employees acted illegally and it can proved they did so on their own, the “corporate veil” would be lifted and the individuals can be held liable.
    - if the individuals acted illegally on behalf of the company, the company can be held liable. If there is something like this it is likely that we may get hit with a fine.
    - it may also be that they just use such an audit to improve their policies, procedures and systems going forward.
Still a wide range of possibilities…so I reckon just wait and see…
