Following on our story from a few minutes back, it seems that Sharks prop Lourens Adriaanse has also been called up to the Springbok squad, joining provincial team mate Stephan Lewies.

SARU have confirmed that Adriaanse comes in as replacement for Beast Mtawarira, with the latter suffering from a “bulging disk” in his neck, which doesn’t sound at all promising from a Sharks points of view. Mtawarira will return to Durban to see a neck specialist.

Flip van der Merwe, for whom Lewies has been summoned, suffered a knee ligament injury against Wales and will also need to see a specialist.

In another bit of bad news, Willem Alberts is suffering from concussion in will need to be observed during the week.

  • Without sounding cruel, at least Beast and Alberts will get some much needed rest….sadly it takes serious injury for them to be given their much needed rest.

  • Great news for Lourens but a huge blow for Beast, really hope it’s not to serious. With Alberts having concussed Lewies will surely be on the bench on Saturday.

  • @robdylan (Comment 9) : Yeah Rob, also what I had heard, so thus If beast is out I reckon Thomas du Toit will get a chance from the bench.

  • How on earth did Adriaanse get a Bok call up? About sums the ignorance of our coach up.

Adriaanse has been exposed this year for the very ordinary player that he is
