Under 19 rugby clashes don’t come any tougher than a trip to Pretoria to take on the Loftus Globe Trotters, also known as the start studded Vodacom Blue Bulls under 19 team. Cell C Sharks junior coach James Fleming has kept faith in the troops that served him well during last weekend’s opening win over the Leopards for this huge challenge.

Westville outside centre Bradley Ellse comes in to replace Glenwood old boy Nkululeko Mcuma in the number 13 jersey in the only change to the team that started last week’s game. Number 8 Ayron Schramm will again lead a side that features SA Schools reps in the Jean-Luc du Preez (flank) and Ruan Kramer (tight head prop). The family connection remains strong, with Johan du Toit (brother of Pietr-Steph), Philip Marais (brother of Jandre and Peet), Matt Reece-Edwards (son of Bok fullback Hugh) and Wesley White (whose dad Jake is also a little bit famous) all starting.

Perhaps the biggest change this week, though, is the inclusion of Jean-Luc’s twin brother, Daniel, on the bench. Big Dan also played for SA Schools and was unlucky to miss out on this year’s IRB Junior World Championship due to an injury sustained on the eve of the tournament. Du Preez replaces Wian Vosloo on the bench, while former KZN Craven Week player Jordan Meaker comes in at reserve hooker to replace Kyle Lewis, who suffered a serious injury against the Leopards. The final addition on the bench is Malcom Cele, a player from little-known Greytown who came up via the KZN Country Districts team.

  • I’m guessing Matthew Reece-Edwards might also have a family connection somewhere?

  • @The Great Couch Shark (Comment 1) : oh crapsticks, yes of course.

Sorry, it’s just that Hugh isn’t active in the setup any more so I didn’t mention him. Then again, Peet and Jandre have both left as well so I should at least be consistent.

  • Oh my, I would’ve laughed myself silly if Jake’s boy turns out to be good at fetching, then we will know if making your kid fetch a beer from the fridge is good trainig for the rugby field

  • Do you mention ‘Glenwood old boy’, because he might actually have been very old in matric?

  • Rob, shouldn’t you have saved this headline for a scenario where we make it through to the semi’s and Charl gets a start?

  • @robdylan (Comment 7) : “Return of the Mac”, Mac being short for McLeod.

Pity he’s not starting in the Highlanders game though, you could have had lots of fun with movie references on that one.

  • @HeinF (Comment 12) : it’s my clever little trick to get people to read articles about the under 19s.

If I don’t do shit like this, nobody would even bother

  • @robdylan (Comment 13) : Haha, can’t argue with that. Most of the time I will only read the under 19 articles if I see a familiar name. I don’t get to watch too many of their games, so don’t really know the players :|
