  • Some good skills at time, mixed with some real poor skills at the wrong time. The kicking game is just awful though, hardly ever contestable – just handing over possession. Likewise no-one can catch a high ball.

The Sharks just need to get out of their shells. They are going to loose with this kicking game anyway. Need to just start playing

Our kicking today has been woeful! The irony is that when we’ve run the ball today we’ve looked really impressive!!

Jake HAS to change our gameplan going forward!!! Kick the ball when you have to, NOT at every opportunity!

Sharks lost this game when they decided to lose to the bottom of the log Landers in Durban.

Then went on to lose it even further when they decided to lose against the bottom of the log streamers in Durban.

Then sealed the embarrassment when they decided to lose to the bottom of the log tsietas.

Sadly, with all the change happening throughout the years at the Sharks, everything has stayed exactly the same. :x

what was missing tonight was execution. our chase game tonight was poor and i dont think we secured one catch under from their k8ck chase game.

the rest was scoreboard pressure coupled with some unfortunant moments from glen jackson. still cant figure out why nz refs refuse to refer to the tv ref.

still cant fathom how a sharks penalty 5 meters out turned into a sharks penalty 30 meters out AND A STERN WARNING… following a very clear punch. at best it was a yellow. It should have been red

  • Can Jake White, Heyneke Meyer and all fellow South Africans with this retarded idea that being physical is the most important part of the game…please get lost and go take up bodybuilding or something useful to your needs.

Rugby is won with the ball – not how hard you can moer your opponents. The sooner we realise that the better.

Tonight we were hammered by a pack – not because they are stronger – but because they used their power intelligently! Not too mention the players are allowed to play the way they see fit (with what is in front of them). Kicking long is not kicking accurate and in the last two weeks we have kicked straight to 2 of the best fullbacks in world rugby – somebody please do the math for me………rant over (for now)

We try and play this forward dominant game and then we’re all surprised when a team matches us physically.
This style of play DOES NOT WORK! How many fuck ng times does it have to be proven to us?

And yet Jake won’t listen or consider anything else. He’s like AC from the Stormers. Think they can win rugby tournaments by playing this dull ‘finals rugby’. All the while the kiwis and even the Aussies dominate us by playing smart.
It has to end. But it won’t.

Sharks of ’07 – ball in hand

Don’t you think we as supporters have become just as predictable in our criticisms? Sometimes I feel I read the exact same complaint on a hourly/daily/weekly basis. There are too few attempts at semi-objective analysis and far too much shooting from the hip, in my opinion, from commentors I know to be very knowledgeable.

In short, I know for a fact that we the fans, are better than this :D

  • @vanmartin (Comment 191) : Go back in the comments on this blog over the past 6 years and you’ll see the same criticisms by supporters of the Sharks game.

    1. Bash-it-up forwards
    2. Kicking away possession
    3. One-dimensional backline
    4. Inability to execute plan A
    5. No plan B

Guess, what? Nothing’s changed in the Sharks game, hence nothing changes in the comments section and, more importantly, nothing changes in the trophy cabinet.

For the most part, previous behaviour is an accurate predictor of future behaviour. It’s as if we are stuck in this ridiculous rut of a game plan with no hope of getting out.

No wonder there’s a certain predictability.

I predict we’ll win the Currie Cup.

  • @vanmartin (Comment 191) : Very diplomatic Van ;-)

It seems we’re all on a predictable course with all things rugby, even your diplomacy has become predictable (not attacking you).

When we win the impossible games (Saders vs. 14), we predictably sing the SHarks’ praises. When we lose vs. the Landers/Streamers/Tsietas, we predictably respond in ways we’ve always responded, as we’ve seen it happen so many times before.

For the predictability of our comments to change, we need the unpredictable to happen. Obviously, if the unpredictable happens too often, even our unpredictable comments and responses will become predictable. ;-)

In essence, for the predictable to become unpredictable, and as the modern person bores very easily, we require constant change.

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 190) : @vanmartin (Comment 191) : think we’re all disappointed about today just remembered this is a very tough competition. Sharks could do better in some games and could have finished in top two but for this year it’s done and no amount of “if this or maybe that” will change anything. I’m not a huge fan of the way JW plays and would have preferred that Venter remained the head coach but that’s not up to me to decide, the only thing I can decide is whether or not to support the Sharks and that’s very easy BLACK AND WHITE FOR EVER!!!!!! Give JS time and I do believe that he willl get the structures in place so that the Sharks will become the dominant force that they should be.

  • @JD (Comment 194) : That is the one reason why I’m not giving up entirely (not that I’d ever support any other team, I just get gatvol enough and take a break from watching rugby for a few years), is that it’s JW’s first year with the Sharks.

Last year we didn’t even reach the top 6. This year we won our conference, so there was an immediate improvement. Next year however, I will not be as forgiving.

Roll on the CC, let’s see what our youngsters can bring to the talent pool. Hopefully the game plan will also be slightly tweaked.

  • @rhineshark (Comment 192) : boet like it or not that’s the way SA teams play. Until the “big kid rules” attitude of most school coaches changes Sa players will rather run into an opponent than around an opponent. Also don’t forget this is JW first season in charge lets see how next year goes.

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 195) : my main problem is that for the Currie cup the Sharks will have yet another new head coach. All this changes will not help the players settle into a playing style.

  • @JD (Comment 197) : I would imagine the JW being DOR will still dictate the playing style, hopefully allowing for a little bit more adventure, as this is only CC and not SR.

So the disruption shouldn’t be that great.

  • @rhineshark (Comment 192) : @FireTheLooser (Comment 193) : It’s not so much a question being asked in the hopes of changing what we say. It’s more about digging a bit deeper and providing a quick explanation on why we say what we say. Context. There used to be more of that. Let’s get out of that rut.

Look, it’s for completely selfish reasons of course. I’ve learnt more about rugby on this blog than any other place on the internet. I want to continue doing so. :D

  • That was brutal to watch!Like a wounded dear made to beg for the butcher’s knife!I HATE this kicking gameplan! Why,when 15 odd points down,do you still prefer to kick? Are the natural survival instinct coached out of the players? At that point surely someone had to wake up and say”Manne, fok Jake, kom ons laat loop die bal,dit kan nie erger gaan as die kuk wat ons nou aanjaag nie’….I truly believe that my beloved Sharks are the worst team to support, just as you start believing, they give you this mother of a browneye!!!I honestly hope come next year,we have a more balanced approach…When Lambie was playing at the start of the year,we were scoring tries(4 vs Bulls) and when he got injured,we started kicking more,so when the time comes to chase a game,we don’t know how to do that! But oh well, another year, another failure, who knows….maybe someday…maybe not!

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 198) : changing coaches every six month will effect the team as this will be combination five in 12-14 months that the players will play under and that does not include the Bok or Japanese players. This Currie cup was needed so that JW could get the players use to and settled in his way of coaching. As for these six month Japanese contracts I really think it’s a major screw up as I think the players on these dual contracts seems to all be in bad form after returning from Japan.

  • Please tell me was I the only person that was worried about the possibility of the Saders going all out against the Sharks so as to revenge the loss?!?!?! Seems to me some people was under the impression that it would be easy as the Sharks already beat them in NZ this year. The Saders are a champion side and champion side are extremely dangerous during play off games especially if the have a point to prove like the Saders had today!!!!! Sharks is a good team but the Saders are just better especially in play off games. If you don’t like the facts maybe it’s time to change your team or your sports, for me (win or lose) it will always be BLACK AND WHITE NOTHING ELSE MATTERS!!!!!! Congrats boys well done on winning the SA conference, sorry you could not go all the way but thanx for the memories and for going as far as you did!!!!!!

  • Lots of Doom and Gloom here after the Sharks capitulation to the Crusaders. But who can honestly say they weren’t expecting it after the k*k rugby dished up by the Sharks over the last few months. Yes it was nice to win a few games and yes it was nice to top the SA conference, but the Sharks, even when they were winning never really looked like a championship winning side.

Amidst the despair, at least Maritzburg College thumped Affies 37 – 10 on Goldstones yesterday, the first time in about 10 years that this has happened

  • @vanmartin (Comment 189) : maybe it’s just me but the loss was not unexpected. I was worried about the possibility of a huge Saders backlash and that’s what happened. Maybe that’s why I am a bit mellow about the loss or maybe it’s because I realise there’s more to live than win Super rugby.

  • We need to seriously think about how we want to play going forward. Also need to really think about the type of coaches and players we recruit. Over the past 6 years we were the most balanced side when we a former backline players (both were midfielders) as head coaches. Jake has been found out to be one dimensional….always has been. Our players have been exposed as zombies both on and off the field, they don’t question anything and continue doing the same stupid things over and over whilst hoping for a different outcome. Jake needs a strong backline oriented person in the coaching staff and players that tell him to go play in the traffic when he defaults to being Jake for him to be effective.
