Pumas team for Sharks game

Pumas coach Jimmy Stonehouse has made only one change to the team that beat the Cheetahs in their first game of their return to Currie Cup. The change comes in the tight five where Marius Coetzer will move to the bench, making place for Giant Mtyanda.

Stonehouse has made one more change on his bench with Rosco Speckman recovering from the groin injury that kept him out of the Cheetahs match.

Stonehouse talked about his teams first game back in the Currie Cup and sad that he was pleased with the win, but that he wants his team to take the opportunities they create better than they did on the weekend. He felt that his team should be better against the Sharks this Friday, even though he knows that they will face tougher opposition.

Stonehouse seemed to indicate that now that his team had gotten the first game back in Currie Cup out of the way that his team will feel more settled and will be able to play their natural game. He made it clear that they will not start playing a low-risk rugby just because the Sharks will post a tougher challange,  but that they will stick to their game plan.

15 JW Bell, 14 Ruwellyn Isbell, 13 JW Jonker, 12 Stefan Watermeyer, 11 Rosco Speckman, 10 Justin van Staden, 9 Reynier van Rooyen, 8 Renaldo Bothma, 7 Jaco Bouwer, 6 Corne Steenkamp (captain), 5 Giant Mtyanda, 4 Frikkie Spies, 3 DeJay Terblanche, 2 Francois du Toit, 1 Vincent Koch

Substitutes: 16 Frankie Herne, 17 Corne Fourie, 18 Marius Coetzer, 19 Uzair Cassiem, 20 Snake Nyoka, 21 JC Roos, 22 Jerome Pretorius

  • As long as we control the game from the beginning and kick tactically well, we should pull this game off without too much trouble.
Must say, that nr.8, Renaldo Bothma had one hell of a game against FS. He continues like that, some big union will pluck him before you can say “super rugby”. Perhaps that union will be a black and white one.. ;-)

  • Dont underestimate that team…they may not be the flashiest names but there are a lot of a very good players in that side. Guys that do the basics very well…they run hard and straight and tackle low. Sharks need to go into this game fully focused…the Pumas are ahead of us on the log!

  • @SheldonK (Comment 3) : Agreed. No CC team should ever be underestimated. They tend to bring their A-game when they play bigger unions.. We should go for the kill right from the start. Not wait for the 65th minute and then suddenly jerk awake.

  • Pumas are going to give all of the teams a run for their money. Best is to put them away in the first half, ceush their spirit and not give them any hope. The same tactict aplies to the Griquas

On a different note, Lambie is on the bench for the Sharks this weekend, being only the 2nd change for this week, Astle coming in for Lewies. Rest of the team is unchanged.

  • @Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 11) : thanx ja it’s a pity if he broke his arm as he was looking good. Glad Astle is getting a chance but would have liked a specialised loosie at 7. As for Pat glad he will be getting game time at the Sharks and not just sitting on the Bok bench.

  • @sharks_lover (Comment 18) : ja this game should be fun to watch. As for the Pumas running the ball they could be in trouble if the Sharks counter attack. Would have loved to have Andrè or Heimar on the bench (4-3 split).
