Steven Sykes and Darron Nel were amongst the changes in the forwards when Eastern Province head coach Carlos Spencer announced his team to face the Vodacom Blue Bulls at Loftus in Pretoria on Saturday.

Paul Schoeman will also replace Thembelani Bholi to partner with Stefan Willemse on the flank.

Luke Watson will return to the side, replacing Aidon Davis, has he missed last weeks game against the Lions.

At scrumhalf, Kevin Luiters replaces Tobie Botes who is suffering from a wrist injury. The rest of the back line remains the same.

On the bench, Michael van Vuuren replaces Albe de Swardt, and Charles Marais replaces CJ van der Linde who is suffering from a calf strain. Siayanda Grey is the only other newcomer to the bench as he replaces Ntabeni Dukisa who took a knock to the knee against the Lions.

Spencer said more experience was needed to help steady the team, especially when things were not going well on the field.

“Darron and Steven bring with them a bit of physicality up front, which we lacked in the last game and which we will need against the Bulls this week,” he said.

“Hopefully Steven and Darron will bring that experience. Especially when we’re down and falling behind on the scoreboard, we’ve had that lack of experience. This is a young group and a lot of them are still learning, so helpfully they will be able to lead by example.”

Spencer said they were expecting a tough game against the Bulls, as both teams would be looking for a win on Saturday.

“They are in a similar position as we are. They have their backs against the wall, they have lost two on the trot, as we have, and we’re going there to their home ground. From what I’ve heard they are under a bit of pressure so they’re going to come out firing,” he said.

  • I’m hoping that the Kings can pull off an upset! I’d really like them to do well as they have to enter Super Rugby in 2016.

  • Glad to see Sykes back in this one, third week now with no sign of Peterson… what’s up? I hope the Kings can pull this one off, and I like this half-back pairing more the the botes/aswegen won, Luiters in my opinion is a better SH then the other boykie, has a beeter control of the game as well… Ya what is your prediction for this one Pierre?

  • @vanmartin (Comment 1) : @Stiko85 (Comment 3) : I wouldn’t mind being wrong on this one but I had Bulls by 8 on SB, rather safe than sorry  but I’m hoping the Kings can pull off a close one.
