DHL Western Province coach has made just one change to his starting 15 for the weekend’s clash against the Blue Bulls at Loftus.

Inside centre Michael van der Spuy has been ruled out due to a hamstring niggle, opening the door for Bok utility back Jaco Taute to start for the first time in a Province jersey, albeit in the unfamiliar position of inside centre. Taute has played senior rugby at both fullback and outside centre, but operated at flyhalf during his school career and thus should not be unfamiliar to the demands placed on an inside back.

The Province team is otherwise unchanged, bar the inclusion of former Michaelhouse boy Pat Howard on the bench.

DHL Western Province: 15. Cheslin Kolbe, 14. Kobus van Wyk, 13. Juan de Jongh (Captain), 12. Jaco Taute, 11. Seabelo Senatla, 10. Demetri Catrakilis, 9. Nick Groom, 8. Nizaam Carr, 7. Michael Rhodes, 6. Siya Kolisi, 5. Manuel Carizza, 4. Jean Kleyn, 3. Pat Cilliers, 2. Stephan Coetzee, 1. Alistair Vermaak
Replacements: 16. Neil Rautenbach, 17. Brok Harris, 18. Ruan Botha, 19. Rynhardt Elstadt, 20. Louis Schreuder, 21. Kurt Coleman, 22. Pat Howard

  • How many WP guys are with the Boks? Cos thats a very good starting side. Maybe a lack of depth on the bench but ive seen worse sides named for Super rugby games…

  • @Baylion (Comment 2) : Etzebth will strengthen their locks with Carizza. Carr has been good at so although he is the Bok 8 i wouldnt mind seeing Vermuelen back at 7 where he started. JDV and DeAllende can swap their Bok positions and def bolster that WP midfield. I do see why province are looking to go prop shopping though.
