Sharks under 21 coach Deon Kayser seems to be turning to his under 19 stars of 2013 in a desperate hope that this year’s terrible season might be turned around. Kayser has made sweeping changes to the backline for this week’s clash against the Lions, reuniting the three-quarter line that performed so well in an unheralded Sharks under 19 side last year.

Michael Cloete and Alrin Eksteen have been picked at wing this week, with Sandile Khubeka coming in at centre to partner Legend Marwana, the latter being the only one to keep his place from last week.

Up front, there is change too. Sias Koen moves again, from blindside to open, with Liam O’Connell moving up from the bench to start in the number 7 jersey. Marne Coetzee (tighthead) and Jacques Taylor (hooker) come into the starting lineup in further changes.

Two club players come onto the bench this week; impressive Toti flanker Sabata Mokhachane and Varsity College winger Lex Botha.

Sharks Under 21s: 15. Alcino Izaacs, 14. Michael Cloete, 13. Nkululeko Marwana , 12. Sandile Kubeka, 11. Alrin Eksteen, 10. Brendan Cope, 9. Stefan Ungerer (capt) , 8. Louis Hazelhurst, 7. Liam O’Connell, 6. Sias Koen, 5. David “Danger” Fisher, 4. Buzwe Mpotulo, 3. Marne Coetzee, 2. Jacques Taylor , 1. Barend Potgieter
Replacements: 16. Cullen Collopy, 17. Brandon Landsberg, 18. Johan Wagenaar, 19. Sabata Mokhachane , 20. Hanco Venter, 21. Lex Botha , 22. Sipho Mkhize

  • this match will be on SS1 this afternoon.

I wouldn’t watch it, if I were you. Not good to start the weekend off on such a low note.

  • This game will serve well in lowering whatever expectations we have left for the seniors tomorrow.

  • :x

Ungerer was having the game of his life, only to have it cut short by the indiscretions of a young no. 4 lock.

I was watching the game to see just how good he really is, and he was 100% on song….but off he went in a neck brace…let’s hope it’s not too serious.

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 10) : oh you’re joking. Was it an illegal tackle?

  • @robdylan (Comment 12) : No. 4 diving over the ruck, head first into Ungerer’s neck…and they took their time to ensure they strap him in safely….no.4 got a yellow for playing the scrumhalf illegally and without the ball.

And Ungerer was playing like a man on a mission, leading the team by example….what an absolute talent, now just to get him through the dreaded injury patch.
