Cooper, Swiel in doubt for Lions

The Sharks have two injury concerns ahead of Friday night’s crunch Currie Cup game against the Lions at Kings Park.

Coach Brad Macleod-Henderson confirmed after Satruday’s big win over the Kings that hooker Kyle Cooper sustained a knee injury, which explains the decision to replace him at half time. The injury will need to be assessed this week; it would be a blow indeed to the side were the nuggety Cooper to be ruled out, although there is good cover in the form of Monde Hadebe and Franco Marais.

Also coming off with a bad knock was reserve fullback Tim Swiel, who went down hard just 5 minutes after replacing SP Marais in the second half. He suffered a hip pointer injury which appears serious and it’s thus unlikely that he’ll play this weekend.

The Sharks will announce their side to face the Lions tomorrow morning.
