Sharks in good shape

The good news coming out of the Sharks camp this week is that no fresh injury concerns have been reported after the weekend victory at Newlands.

In fact, the Sharks are expected to field a near unchanged line-up for this weekend’s semi-final, with Kyle Cooper likely to return as starting hooker after sitting out with a minor ankle strain this week.

A number of other players who picked up longer-term injuries earlier in the campaign are now also close to fitness – whether the likes of Odwa Ndungane, Francois Kleinhans or Heimar Williams would now come into the selection frame remains to be seen, but it’s rather more likely that he coaches will opt not to tinker too much.

The Sharks side will be confirmed on Thursday.

  • Good to hear seems as though we will have a full uninjured team to pull from

  • Will be interesting to see how they fit 3 scrummies into 2 positions. Will it be Reinach / Hoffmann, Reinach / Wright, Wright / Hoffmann, Wright / Reinach?

  • @Bokhoring (Comment 4) : pretty sure it’s Reinach/Hoffmann

  • @robdylan (Comment 5) : Agreed, although I would have liked Cam to be there too. I reckon Reinach and Wright should be the main scrumhalves in S15 next year.

  • Would also like to see Wright there. People complain about Lionel but a fly half is only as good as the service he receives from a scrummy. Look at how well Cronje played when he received good service from Cam

  • @Julesgr8ter (Comment 8) : I’d go with Wright and Hoffmann against the Lions. If Cobus must play it should only be from the bench and because there’s a five/two split on the bench!!!!

  • @durbsguy (Comment 11) : oooooh. I hadn’t thought about that one, but it could be amazing.

Remember how good Lambie always looked with an in-form McLeod?

  • @robdylan. Lambie came on off the bench in one game and they played together. It was pretty great! Also think that would be cool

  • So fill me in gents…following the currie cup from Down Under is a tedious endeavor. How do we line up against this, seemingly in form, Lions team??? From what Ive gathered we have been average without being poor or spectacular…but picked up form in the last few weeks???

How have the new half back pairings gone?? (as individuals and units)

  • Is Wright injured or below Hoffman in the pecking order?

  • I would say he must have picked up a niggle as he didn’t turn out for the u21s last week

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 7) : I saw Ungerer in the game against the Highlanders and he looked pretty good to me too.

But Wright’s strong pass directly from the base is something special. His kicking game is not great, but then I dislike scrumhalves overdoing the box kick anyway.
