The Sharks will announce their new Director of Rugby at a press conference in Durban tomorrow.

CEO John Smit and Board Chariman Stephen Saad will introduce the new Director shortly after noon at a media function at Kings Park.

Gary Gold is the man widely tipped to get the job, but we’ll know for sure (and update you all) as soon as the information is public.

  • @Morné (Comment 2) : Coaching the Sharks in addition to backing them for wins would surely result in some sort of cosmic tear in the space-time continuum ;)

  • @BoerSeun (Comment 11) : I think that whoever it is we, as the Sharks fans, need to get behind them and encourage them to bring back the ‘Sharks way’, exciting running rugby. I don’t think I could stand another Super Rugby Season of kick and chase rugby.

  • Gary gold, is a cape club coach! He is kak! Been axed many times due to attetude. Gold is a poepol!!! Punt!!!

John Smit could find any coach in the world…in 2 attempts appointed the same type character…and this time he must pay for it. Sharks are loosing battle in board room. We have players dictating terms to employers. Management running a show based on player bias. Youngster taking it all in, and now we take the first fool smit can dictate terms to….this is mal…venter officially wasn’t even offered the job. Rassie wasn’t offered a chance to apply. Wtf is going on in our Tank? Gary Gold axed more times than any coach I know. I am not saying he is unqualified he is unaccomplished….but hey we are the sharks lets give him a go! He is John’s other mate after all.

  • @gregkaos (Comment 16) : r365 also got a piece on Gold. Seems he had 3 jobs since 2012, including a stint at Bath where he left under mysrerious circumstances. I just hope for SA sake he stays longer than Jake.

  • @Blue Centurion (Comment 21) : From what I’ve read the fans and players under him were pretty upset that he was dismissed at Bath. Bath were doing very well up to when he left. Who knows how long he was prepared to stay at Bath.

When you end up without a job quite suddenly in the world of rugby, you have to be prepared to take what you can get. It’s not like there are loads of high profile coaching/dor jobs just sitting around vacant mid season.

@BoerSeun (Comment 19) : Your trolling needs work. Lacks attention to detail.

  • Regardless of who it is, let’s just give him a chance. I was over the moon with JW, and that ended up well…
Things work out in funny ways, so who knows!

Quite right! Most at Bath were disappointed to see him leave. Bath have improved noticeably since when he first started, so he probably put some good structures into place. We have a big player changeover going on, so a fresh start is needed. Give him a chance to work things out.

  • @BoerSeun (Comment 19) : Are you implying Rassie wanted to apply but wasn’t offered the opportunity? Pretty sure Rassie is satisfied with his current job. Venter has made it clear he wants to stay in the Cape.

  • I am just saying if you want the best you need to let them know they are wanted. Hence make them an offer, and it might be roomers but no offers where made to acquire them or enquiries done to start negotiations with them. Nor for Theron and here is a fact.
