  • Boks had a few opportunities to put Italy away – just stuffing it up close to the line. Scrums not going to badly, but Italy have now stolen 2 of our lineouts.

  • Atrocious performance from the Boks. Poor performance from the referee.

It’s amazing how the Supersport guys always pick on the mistakes by the Sharks players and blow the contribution of Stormers (like Carr) out of proportion.

    Mallet truly hates Reinach.

Always turns out to be a bore fest…same as the games vs. Argentina.

Come the WC, the Boks will have the motivation to bring their A-game, every game….can’t judge the Boks’ wc chances on their performance in an irrelevant “test” match.

  • @Original Pierre (Comment 35) : You are joking right? He was average. Still need to watch the game to determine what was the root cause for our slow game. Was it the forwards not presenting the ball or a lack of urgency from Cobus. Suspect the latter as Cobus is infamous for bringing the game to an almost stand still with his pedestrian want to be the decision maker game. Hope Brendan works on this aspect of his game bigtime during the off season. Cobus needs to understand that he is not there to sidestep people. He needs to speed up the game and distribute quickly to the flyhalf else he makes everyone look bad.

  • Reinach was always slow and I have hoped that coaching would have sorted that out. He is a serious bad influence on Lambie and Coetzee to get go forward ball. HM now has 2 crazy fast wings in the no 9 shirt.
Either coach him right or get McLoed to pair with Lambie. Even the Houghard Pollard combo looked quicker. But when someone has to jump to catch a pass the movement is over and momentum is lost. Coetzee and the forwards were so powerful when they played and passed from the base but Italy was seldom under real pressure. All in all another uninspiring performance. And watching the Irish beat the Australians made it so more obvious.

    - were the man of the match adjudicators idiots?

  • pastorshark (Comment 58) : To me Cobus strikes me a player that wants to be the general (Fourie is probably his hero), he will get to ruck and want to look up to see where the opportunities are and then decide for the flyhalf. He needs to understand that the flyhalf is the decision maker. The game looked much quicker when Hougie came on as he allowed Pollard space and time to call the shots. Yes the forwards play a big role in the quality of ball received by the 9 but we need to also look at what the 9 does with that ball.

I must admit that slowness at the ruck irritates the hell out of me with both Reinach and Hougaard. All I’m saying is he can’t have been all bad yesterday…and I’d rather have the younger Reinach as 3rd scrummy behind FdP and RP and teach him, than Hougaard, who has just always remained generally slow behind the ruck…

Other refs would have reset those scrums over an over but this guy threw the rule / law book out the window on this aspect of the game I liked it.

  • I def think i watched a different Bok game this weekend. Either that or we are seriously unrealistic supporters. Yeh the Boks didnt win by 50pts..the way Italy played i doubt any team would have won by 50…and some probably would have lost. The game was played on a narrow pitch taking away the space the Boks could use out wide- very clever by the Italians. They defended very manfully and played a very smart if limited game. So lets give them credit. But also credit the Boks for controlling the game and getting the comfortable win. I thought Reinach was very good..when the subs were made he got a lot quicker ball. I thought Goosen was solid but didnt take risks..Willie played witht he freedom of a guy knowing his place is secured. Etzebeth was very good as was Coetzee. Mahoje was a passenger as was JP Pieterson. I thought all the props did well. Bismarck’s lineout throwing was abysmal, but it always is wen he comes on as a sub

  • @benji (Comment 69) : I think we being unrealistic. Italy played very well. The Boks still controlled the game but Italy defended a lot better than OZ and Arg did in games during the Rugby Championship. Games vs the NH sides are not the 50point games they used to be. Sides are getting better and better. There was a lot more to be positive about the Boks on Sat than to be negative. If we thought we were gonna win by 50 it just shows how little we know.

Im still adamant that the Boks did a lot right on the weekend

  • @Dancing Bear (Comment 43) : @Stiko85 (Comment 44) : Ok smart asses, laugh all you like… I wasn’t referring to Lambie’s performance in this game alone. What I was in fact referring to is his irritating tendancy to miss the easy kicks… he has done it at least 4 times now at international level that I can remember, including his very first kick in international rugby.

I’m sure as a coach you expect your kickers to have a 100% success rate on the “sitters”, and would then have a different target for them as the kicks get harder and harder.

I want Lambie to play as our first choice fly-half as much as the next die-hard Sharks supporter… but with so much competition for the position at the moment, I wouldn’t want to give HM any excuse to leave him on the bench. My fear, is that missing the kicks that even Ollie LeRoux could get over, would put a black mark against his name in HM’s books. I hope I’m wrong.

  • @CS (Comment 79) : good point missing kickable kicks would not sit well with any coach so ja I would rather play a weaker general player that kicks 100% of his kicks. The whole thing would be deferent if a kicker like Percy was at 15 but no ja……
