Sharks Super Rugby squad members Tyler Fisher and Neil Maritz have been invited to represent the Suzuki Wailers invitational side at this year’s Dubai Sevens, taking place in the middle eastern trade mecca this weekend.

Both players are yet uncapped at Super Rugby level, having represented the Sharks’ under 21 side for the last two years. Fisher and Maritz both offer depth as utility back options for the Sharks – as ready-made 13s who can also operate at wing if required. The sevens experience can only, I’m sure, add further strings to their respective bows.

Also adding Sharks flavour to the Wailers’ mix this year are Academy coach AB Zondagh and physio Dan Garnett, who have been invited to join teh management team for the duration of the tournament.

The 2014 Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens take place on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 December, with the Wailers drawn in Pool B. They will play in the opening match against the Midi Olympique Froggies at 11:00am local time this Friday.

All the best to Tyler, Neil, Dan and AB!

  • Japanese side, maybe Suzuki Whalers would have been more appropriate.

Any idea how the Sharks get to be so well represented at the tournament?

  • Seems as if there are 2 Alan Zondaghs involved in rugby. AB Zondagh being the lesser known of them while Alan has a rugby academy in the Cape and has a wealth of rugby knowledge and has coached at the highest level. I wonder if they are related.

  • @robdylan (Comment 4) : as to avoid confusion can’t we just call the one A. (for Alen) Zondagh and the other one B. Zondagh? ;-)

  • @JD (Comment 6) : Well, the younger one is known as AB, not as Alan.
