Positive news on the injury front

The first set of pictures of Sharks training for 2015 have gone up on the Gallo Images web site.

While it’s not always possible to glean much from these snaps, there is some good news in that both Pieter-Steph du Toit and Willem Alberts appear to be up and running and taking full part in the session. Du Toit, in particular, looks to be running without even a shred of strapping on his knee, a pretty good indication that he’s completely over his horrific ACL injury and set to make a big contribution in 2015.

Mouritz Botha and Jack Wilson, both of whom joined the Sharks from Saracens during December, are both in attendance and taking full part.

Stephan Lewies, though, appears to be out after some sort of arm or shoulder problem; we’re not sure what the prognosis is but will update you all once we know more.

  • @Pokkel (Comment 9) : Yes, he confirmed it himself. :)

Ok, in all seriousness, there hasn’t been an announcement, but why would there be? I think it’s safe to assume Bismarck would continue as captain, probably in rotation with Tera

  • @robdylan (Comment 10) : Figured that would be the case, and possibly further reinforced in that both were the only players wearing red jerseys in the pics?

  • @robdylan (Comment 10) : that would make sense. Just hope if Bismach is captain that he gets enough breaks so as to give Cooper some game time.

  • Who are the likely encumbents for the nr 8 jersey this SR? I know the big man from Pumas (bothma) is one and then the CC captain Mtembu will put his hand up. But any others (kanko?)

I gues my only worries for this year are SH (adequate backup for Cobus)and FB (backup or replacement for SP) The rest looks fairly well covered, especially that monster front pack.

  • @coolfusion (Comment 19) : As long as Ungerer is there as scrummie backup, I’ll be happy….Cameron Wright should be second backup, and Hanco Venter third backup…so at scrummie we’re well covered.

  • Good news for PSDT, this is a big year for him, and everyone will be hoping he can make it through the season and step up for the RWC. He is looking very good physically. Really looking forward to the season, hope the lads have an awesome preseason with no casualties. I am intrigued to see how BV and GG see their premium match day 23 – but enjoy the ethos they bring of each squad player being responsible.

  • @DarkDestroyer (Comment 23) : ja I think we all hope that PSDT will remain injury free. PSDT and Lewies is still the ultimate lock combo for the Sharks if only they could remain injury free.

  • @JD (Comment 25) : Yeah, player management will be crucial, if we don’t overburden them with too much game time, they can stay fresh. Good depth at lock, so that is key. I’m not too concerned about the “lack” of depth in the backline, as the workload always sits with the voories – and we have good depth there. I’m not expecting a SR win, but I am quietly confident of a good season. We should win the conference at least.
