Steyn appeal hearing postponed

SANZAR’s balls-up of an appeal into their own Judicial Officer’s verdict has been postponed, clearing the way for Frans Steyn to play for the Sharks this weekend.

A new date for the hearing has been set – it will now take place next Tuesday. It’s hard to predict what the likely outcome will be, but at least we now know that there won’t have to be any eleventh-hour changes to the team.

Let’s just hope that all the uncertainty doesn’t impact on the player’s ability to turn in a solid performance at fly half against the Force on Saturday.

  • @vanmartin (Comment 7) : @sharks_lover (Comment 11) : I’ve decided to get off Conrad Hoffman’s case before people start thinking of me only as “that anti-Hoffman guy” (like Uli and Reinach). I mean, there are so many more facets to me. Like my Marius Joubert abhorrence. And my Matt Stevens disdain.

  • Glad a wee bit of sanity has prevailed and the team can have some certainty.

The fact that there is still an appeal happening is a travesty in its own right. Get your act together SANZAR!

  • Why can’t SA just leave SANZAR, AUS too for that matter. SANZAR is NZ owned and run I’m sure…

  • @coolfusion (Comment 23) : yeah lets play against,Kenya and Zim.
There is only one thing beter than beating an Aussie team, thats beating a Kiwi team.
Our problem is the morons we send to represent us at SANZAR.

  • Just a quick point to make.

Citing officials and citing commissioners are federation appointed and paid officials – these are the guys sitting at the game, or watch on TV, and record various incidents they deem deserves action like an off-field card, or in more serious cases a hearing. A red card is an immediate hearing. They are also in most cases ex-players or referees.

The judicial officers who conduct these hearings are independent. These are okes that studied law.

So it is very likely that either party, the player or the federation who has the system in place (SANZAR), can appeal the outcome of a hearing, and it is exactly what happened here.

  • @Morné (Comment 25) : Hi boet, I think the problem is not the they can or can’t, the problem is that again this only happens when a Saffa player is involved, Hika went in twice on Beast with the 2nd hit hitting it’s target, Beast then sports a badly cut and swollen eye Hika also went into Beast kneck and head area and gets 1 week? Bismark 4 weeks? It is simply different rules for different countries.
