Loftus stampede

Sharks fans married to their own pain at the moment would do well to turn their eyes North and pay attention to today’s announcement of a host of player departures from the Bulls.

While we remain in something of a state of flux – not quite sure which players will be departing Kings Park at the end of the Super Rugby season over and above those that ahve already been announced – the Bulls seem to know who they are losing. It’s nightmare reading for fans of the team in light blue.

The biggest (new) news is that Pierre Spies will leave Loftus to join Jake White at Montpellier, after a stint in Japan. On the same plane will be promising young utility forward Jacques du Plessis (a move that was communicated some time ago). Jacques-Louis Potgieter is also heading back to France, to play for Lyon, while Flip van der Merwe’s move to Clermont-Avergne was already known.

Francois Hougaard is also heading to Japan (to join the Canon Eagles, alongside Willie le Roux) and has not yet confirmed a return to Pretoria for Super Rugby. Victor Matfield and Akona Ndungane have both announced their retirement from the game, although in Matfield’s case this will only be after the 2015 Rugby World Cup. Ndungane’s retirement is immediate, following expiration of his contract.

  • So how much does anyone know about the Flip saga? Heard some interesting stuff from very reliable source. Might have massive impact on WC squad selection if HM has issues with team cohesion and respect between players

  • You can also add Deon Stegman. Sounds like he is coming back to the Eastern Cape to farm. The Kings’s Tobie botes also doing the same thing… looks like the game farms must be doing well

He does not realize that the players also look at the coaching stuff and ask themselves whether will this coaching staff give them the coaching ability to challenge for higher honours and trophies. I am sorry but I want those assistants out. Their contracts should not be renewed. If they are then it’s on John head.

Yes, it was. MySQL was dying due to memory and CPU starvation. Reason for that was upwards of 100 Apache child processes. Reason for that was essentially a DOS attack.

A bit of tuning, a bit of .htaccess voodoo and we suddenly look a fair bit better. But I’m moving to using Cloudflare CDN as well to try mitigate this.

I would take that to mean he was sounded out about some sort of role as an attack coach from that…not head coach.

The players out of form are also leaving. Du plessis and Hougaard the exceptions. I just hope Small-Smith can stay.
