New prop has neck op

Word from the Bok camp regarding the fitness of new signing Coenie Oosthuizen is not promising, with team doctor Craig Roberts confirming that the big prop has had to undergo an operation to correct a bulging disc in his neck.

Oosthuizen has been on a rest program – the hope being that the problem would come right on its own – but that has no proved the case and Roberts’ explanation is that the operation was necessary in order to safeguard his future career. In other words, there’s no hope of Rugby championship action for Coenie this season, while his World Cup participation also looks to be seriously in doubt.

It’s hoped that, should Coenie not be able to play at the World Cup, he will at least recover in time to be fit for selection for his new team, the Sharks, in Super Rugby next year.

All the best, Coenie – we hope it comes right soon!

  • Hmmm this is disappointing. Hoping SARU halps the Sharks pay for his rehab at least.

  • Perhaps time to stick with Coenie on the loosehead? I believe it was Megatron that remarked that he injures himself each time shortly after playing tighthead. It may be that those injuries over time have caught up with him or it may be that I have no idea what I’m talking about

  • So we signed a proper sick note…mayb we needed one to replace PSDT. I cant see the Sharks getting much value from this guy which is a pity. Hav a feeling that if he makes the RWC he may can playing after it.

  • Why not remove him from bok selection neck injuries are normally a 2 month thing. Then he has to get back in shape for world cup? Sounds like risking a career.

  • @SheldonK (Comment 28) : WP / Stormers have absolutely no one suited to play as an outright fetcher…it has been an issue since D Fourie left….Vermeulen has stepped into the breech but we are so obviously devoid of this weapon when Vermeulen not there…..Carr, Notshe and Kolisi all more inclined to play a 7 or 8 type role…Marcell has evolved into a very decent fetcher type….and we all know he can carry….reality is he is , in the absence of a Brussow, the next best opensider …..I know he was very much in Smals sights, but it appears to have died down here with not much rumours doing the rounds.

  • @grant10 (Comment 29) : Kolisi, Carr, Notshe are all tallish, athletic loosies so good ball carrying options and can move bodies at rucks. Perhaps utilising resources the WP hookers, Ntubeni and Mbonambi, who are both short and stocky should be trained more as fetchers. Well thats after they learn lineout throwing that is.

First time I noticed him was in Currie Cup game for Griquas, when he totally schooled Redlinghuis who came on as a replacement
I remember this because the next morning I was on the golf course behind Redlinghuis, when I asked him how his game had been he laughed and said”I came up against a monster ”
A few weeks later Redlinghuis was gone and Adriaanse had arrived.
But then hindsight is always 100%

  • @JD (Comment 81) : Yeah man its a stupid habit and expensive lol.
@FireTheLooser (Comment 82) : Well done Fire!! I’ve smoked about 11yrs – my wife actually told me that I must make sure I have kicked the habit before I even think of asking her to marry me lol. So about a month before I planned to asked her I quit  Lucky a bad case of tonsillitis helped to quit cold turkey.
