What they had to say: Sharks vs WP, Round 6

Hi Sharks fans. There’s not much to say after Saturday’s “effort”. I find myself growing more and more despondent with the lack of heart shown. As for poor Joe Pietersen, how he was expected to take the last kick when he was limping badly is beyond me.

Let’s get into what the media had to say:

Media:

“The Capetonians trailed the Sharks 17-10 at half-time, before taking control of proceedings in the second half – a three-try blitz between minutes 42 and 53 doing the business for them as they triumphed by 37-27.” – news24.com

“The Sharks, however, were not able to put together enough phases on attack to trouble the DHL WP defence and when replacement flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis landed a 78th minute penalty it gave his team more than enough breathing space as the Kings Park clock wound down.” – news24.com

“The Cape side ran in four tries to the Sharks’ two in a game which saw both teams penalised on a number of occasions for breakdown indiscretions. WP’s scrum dominance towards the end of the game was also key to the away team’s victory in the Shark tank.” – rugby365.com

“Province turned in a strong second-half performance as they ran in three tries in 10 minutes during the half, and four in total, with the out-gunned Sharks, who managed just two tries, kept in the match by the boot of flyhalf Joe Pietersen who kicked five penalties and a conversion.” – supersport.com

“Province came up with a game-changing spell just after the break when they ran two converted tries to turn a 17-10 deficit into a 24-17 lead. The Sharks were never able to regain the lead and Province surged further ahead midway through the second half when they scored the bonus-point try.” – iol.co.za

“Playing in a commemorative jersey to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union, the Sharks produced a mostly impressive performance in the first half, with a host of former players in attendance at Kings Park. However, a shocking second-half meltdown allowed Western Province to re-establish the ascendancy on their way to a fourth win of the season.” – sarugbymag.co.za

Twitter:

“Another sad day for the Sharks! #sharksrugby #familytime”

“#CurrieCup Jean-Luc du Preez has been one of the few shining lights today #SharksRugby #SSRugby”

“#CurrieCup Decision-making on defence still a concern… #SharksRugby #SSRugby”

“More excitement in first 2mins of #BlueBullsvGoldenLions than entire #SharksvsWP game. Go Lions!!! #SSRugby #1891Worthy”

  • Thanks for the effort, Stevie! Pity that there wasn’t much positive feedback in the media. We started off well and then went to sleep at halftime

  • @ChrisS (Comment 1) : No guts, no commitment, no log points

Tight five only knows reverse and with no set pieces, Sharks cant compete
