World Cup Winning Recipe

In all the current doom and gloom over the Sharks performances or rather lack of performances I think I may have found the perfect recipe for a Bok World Cup winning team.

Strange as it may seem there’s a lot of similarities between the team that first won the Cup in 1995 and the team that did it again in 2007. Taking all of these into consideration I came up with the “perfect” recipe for the team:

15 must be a Sharks player
14 must be a Sharks player
13 must be originally from the Lions
10 must be born and bred in Sharks country
9 must be a Bulls player
8 must be a lock
7 must be originally from the Cheetahs
Locks must be from the same province/team.
1 must be Os du Randt (or at least originally from the Cheetahs)

So where does it leave the class of 2015? Do we have the players to fit into the “perfect” team? I think we just might have the player in the squad to be able to select the “perfect” team. So here is the must have players for us to win the World Cup again:
15 Willie le Roux
14 JPP/Mvovo
13 Bryan Habana
10 Pat Lambie
9 Rudy Paige
8 Lood de Jager
7 Duane Vermeulen
Locks PSDT and Etzebeth
1 Wonder what’s Os doing? or else Coenie must do.

This just leaves me with one question and that is: Did HM also see these similarities and is that why he picked the current squad? You decide?!?!?!?!

  • Love it!!
Sadly you can draw comparisons with ’03 as well.
    1.Stormers captain.
    2. Young Bulls flyhalf lots of people feel is not quite ready.
Buy I hope the 95 and 07 comparisons work out better. Although Coenie as best loosehead…?

  • If i just look at our successful RWC campaigns and the teams we had to beat-
1995: Australia, Romania,Canada, Western Samoa, France and New Zealand
2007: England, Tonga, Samoa, USA, Fiji, Argentina, England
Both times we had 1 tough pool game but an easy quarter final.

    Chester in 95,Burger in 07.

And yeh College possibly underachieving of late but still capable of getting it together and causing sides problems. I just look at our KZN Craven week side and wonder if our KZN rugby really is that strong…or are we picking the right side?

  • @Seth101 (Comment 45) : I understand your thinking but you kinda do have to compare strength throughout irrespective of numbers as thats what my comment was about- the strength of 1 school vs another not just 1 team vs another. Yes the school with more boys is expected to be stronger, but thats exactly what i said. @Seth101 (Comment 28) : Interesting that 6 of that Craven Week team of the decade still at the Sharks. 6 of 22 may not seem a lot but its not bad to be honest.
