What they had to say: Sharks vs Griquas, Round 9

So I know it was only Griquas, but it’s been so long since a convincing win that I feel we can celebrate. It’s also pleasing to see so many backs amongst the try scorers. Well done boys!!! There isn’t much in the media, probably because it wasn’t televised, and there wasn’t anything on Twitter surprisingly.

Media:

“Griquas were no match for a rampant Sharks side during their Absa Currie Cup match at Griqua Park in Kimberley on Saturday. The Durban-based side ran in six tries to beat Griquas 45-20 to move within two points of the fourth-placed Cheetahs on the log ahead of next week’s final regular season fixture.” – news24.com

“THE SHARKS HAVE MANAGED TO ANNIHILATE THE GRIQUAS 45-20 IN KIMBERLEY WITH A VINTAGE FIRST HALF DISPLAY OF ATTACKING PLAY ON SATURDAY. The Sharks kept their playoff hopes alive when a bonus point win saw them move to within two points of fourth placed Free State Cheetahs on the log.” – rugby365.com

“The Griquas improved their defensive patterns at the start of the second half and they held the Sharks out until the 54th minute when replacement scrumhalf Michael Claassens went over for a converted try. The Sharks continued to assert their dominance and left wing Sibusiso Sithole added his name to the try-scorer’s list before the Griquas finally managed to breach the visitor’s defence when they grabbed two late tries through replacement back Sandile Ngcobo and Nel.” – supersport.com

“The Sharks scored six tries in their 45-20 demolition of Griquas in Kimberley on Saturday. Following the draw between the Pumas and Cheetahs earlier, the Sharks kept their semi-final hopes alive with a bonus-point victory at Griqua Park that moves them two log points off the top four.” – sarugbymag.co.za

Here‘s hoping for a great game this weekend against the Cheetahs.

@Kabouter (Comment 2) : Somehow seems to detract from the competition’s merits, or is it just me?

  • Most rewarding for us! Just when we seem to have played well the match is not televised!

I wish overseas rugby ( not World Cup) eg ITM CUP or something like that — would not not come before ANY Curry Cup game!!!!!!!! as far as TV goes!

  • @Kabouter (Comment 4) : I would definitely not complain lol

@Den (Comment 5) : The quality is arguably higher in the ITM, but I think the reason is that they could only fit in one local game due to RWC committments.

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 7) : I was discussing this with some friends. Apparently he has only coached England and the Saxons, never a Premiership side, so that begs the question, does he have the necessary experience and skills to coach a team which needs rebuilding.

Before you all jump down my throat, I know England needed ‘rebuilding’ after the 2011 WC, but they are all professionals from Premiership sides. The rebuilding I’m talking about is a whole new culture, with many young, inexperienced players.

  • @Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 14) : Look i think every coach has pros and cons and it depends which ones u can live with that then determine if you want a guy or not. I think the pros that Lancaster brings would be discipline, a fast paced game and premium on fitness. Cons would be he seems unable to conjure up a good plan B and he has a tendency to pick a captain loyal to him rather than a guy best for the team.

“If England approached me, would I listen to them? Of course I would, but whether the RFU part ways with Stuart Lancaster is a big and difficult decision,”

I actually thought that we’d have “Gatland for Sharks coach” first up…never thought England would be tanking out of the world cup first.
