Time to have your say

Someone over at Sharks HQ has clearly taken their Bob Martins this morning and is feeling especially brave.

If you head over to this link, you have the option to provide some direct feedback regarding the way you’re feeling about Sharks rugby at the moment. I’d urge all fans to do so, especially the ones who are most vocal about the current woes of the union.

For those who don’t live in Durban and thus can’t go to games, the first section will be a little meaningless (and possibly annoying), but do persevere because there’s some better stuff at the end, and an opportunity to provide as much general free-form feedback as you’d like. Just as a hint, the correct answer to the question “What players would you like to see in the Black and White in the future?” is “Lood de Jager”.

As always, please keep it tidy and constructive. Sending direct and personal abuse via the internet is really not something that marks you as a decent person and I’m sure we all want to be decent people. Right? Thought so.

  • Done and done. Gave my opinion. Wasn’t nasty. I’m glad they are doing this, now they should just prove that they are listening to the fans!

  • Ok maybe its me (being a ex front row forward) or maybe it underlines the issues at the sharks but if I go to the link http://fanfeedback.co.za/
    I get the splurb

`As loyal supporters you make up the heart of the union- pulling us through tough times and celebrating with us during the highs. As such your feedback and recommendations form a vital part in helping us make The Sharks a success. Please take some time to fill out our survey and assist us as we work even harder to honour the legacy of our great union.`

but no survey or place to write a comment… and if i click about a bit and hit refresh i get

    `THANK YOU!

Thank you for taking the time to complete our survey, your feedback is greatly appreciated!`

    WTF :!: :!: :!: :!:

Burden not available, Britz too old, Lions wont let Marx go, Marutule from Kings not better than current crop, Van Jaarsveld and Coetzee from Cheetahs also not better than current crop, Bulls rejects..no way

Chilly can play but he needs to want to push for Boks again and if he plays 70% of his ability he will be better than what we saw lately at KP

  • @Uli Boelie (Comment 9) : Using that example, if they recruit Matt Stevens as they want to win at all costs then surely they must insist he get in prime fighting condition. Then to develop the youth he should be tasked with taking 2 or 3 junior props under his wing to teach them the finer arts of scrummaging etc. Yes not the best example but jus using it

But for that to be a realistic expectation next year for a pass mark is perhaps a bit too optimistic. Yes we have the players..im just not sure they all at the top of their game at the moment. The one argument is that Meyer did not build the Bulls up to Championship material in 4 years. My problem with this argument is then why so many “experienced” players in 2015. Where are those youngsters.

The other argument is that Meyer has a terrible record and only able to beat the AB once in 4 years. My problem with this argument is who has really beaten the AB consistently over the last 4 years? They are the Best in the World…simple

  • @StevieS (Comment 48) : I think the difficulty comes in that the more ‘add ons’ there are the higher ticket prices need to be, at least initially. My suggestion for CC would be to take the rugby back to the rugby communities so you have say UKZN playing Rovers up in pmb followed by the Sharks vs WP. The next week the Sharks play Cheetahs after Crusaders/Collegians game at Crusaders etc. Yes it wont be thousands and thousands watching but people will perhaps again feel an attachment to the sharks so that in time when numbers and interest es grow you move the game back to the big stadium

  • @Kabouter (Comment 68) : i hate being negative but i think Tank Lanning’s articles are usally pretty decent but this one isnt. His criteria are based on an ideal world where fans and sponsors dont want to see immediate results and the Bok coach has the contact time with all players to breed the skills etc. And Flip should rather keep to himself- sour grapes much. It was mentioned on one article that Ackermann is doing a world of good for SA rugby the environment and players he is creating at the lions. Why are NZ so successful- because ALL their unions buy into the same blueprint and environment.

  • Can anyone rate Dan Kriel for me, from his days as a schoolboy in Maritzburg. I know he has been plagued by injury but how good is the boy. Or how good was he? Is it a farfetched idea to get back another KZN boy like Ruan Combrink to come play fullback. Thats another problem position

  • @Ben i believe Joe will be deputising at 10 more than playing 15. Jaco has been in the fray for quite a while and has failed to impress me. Truth be told, we need brilliantly talented young players if the Sharks are to challange for anything in the near future. Some players are just not good enought for the Sharks IMO

Did Christie? And how about Hansen he had about as much time with his squad as Heineke had as has every other coach.

  • @coolfusion (Comment 87) : The process is slowly starting with the Lions (mostly transformed, barring defense) and the Bulls (just starting) creating better playing environments. Gert Smal has certainly gathered some good ingredients in Cpt Town so lets see what Jones creates there. Concerns at the moment are Bloem (just purely quality depth), Durban (trying to rebuild the twin towers) and PE (more jester than Kings at the moment). I think Durban will come right in time, Bloem will always have the depth issue and pehaps that where the excess 7s boys need to be deployed en masse. And ya PE…hmm. So for the short term im looking to the Lions, Bulls and WP to produce players with the right culture and skills to enable the Bok coach (whoever he or she ;) is to pull something good together given the brief contact time.

  • @pastorshark (Comment 117) : I think many people asked for more information. I suggested they also do a pre match briefing session where smit does a in person state of affairs instead of a letter now and then. They can also have a praise section in that adress to the fans where they can commend so high performing players. Fan can show their appreciation in person and it will be incentive and morale boosting.

  • @pastorshark (Comment 116) : Yeh he was till he got injured. The point i was trying to make is that of the whole sharks proposed super rugby squad not many if any of them are currently at the end of this season in any kind of form. So it will take a beeg effort in preseason to get them there. Hopefully the guys playing in Japan can play themselves into some form, but then they always have an adjustment period when they get back.
