  • I’m wondering why you’d do an exhibition like this, with a bunch of international stars, if only 16,500 people (capacity at the Gloucester stadium) will be able to watch it? I will switch SuperSport on to see if thye just neglected to add it to their schedule, but it seems unlikely.

whose the barbar coach this time ?

Good news, I believe giant is playing another season of super rugby for us cause his Facebook profile changed from works at ”puma’s” too ”sharks”

which is good news as we need his height in the line out, his size and weight in the scrum, his mobility on attach and in the loose, his a solid defender too. As you can see i rate the guy, hope we sign him out right when ever his puma’s contract ends

Now Pat is going to be saddled with Reinarch’s bi-polar game again.
Hell is Pat going to have this millstone around his neck forever.

  • @The hound (Comment 21) : Now that is puzzling. All the scrum halves have been blamed for Lambie, not reaching his potential in some peoples view. I have read that it was the reason why Pollard got the nod, as Pollard didn’t have to play outside “slow as mud” Pienaar. Fact is prior to the WC, he played more games with Pienaar at 10, than Lambie. Now in your view it’s Reinach?

Which begs the question, how are the two going to perform then for the Sharks. Is Michael Claasens the solution? Serious question, as so many people blame the scrummie, for Lambies performances?

Unfortunately I can only relate vague rumors I might have overheard at some point.

They say you may use a search engine such as torrentz to find any older match and that it is possible that the original sources for these are the dedicated cappers at accrossthetasman. Full access to that site requires registration though, and this is mostly available through an invite – which off course, knowing nothing of these matters, I could not provide.
In lieu of an invite, it could be possible, that if you use and share their files for a while, they may notice you and open up direct access. Just keep in mind that the rights owners may also notice you and that may not be in your best interest.

    So I’ve heard.

Same goes here for Lambie over Pollard. So please try and get that into your head as its not likely to change. And regarding Pollard, he was seriously average this year. Undoubtedly, the creators of ideas ought to gain benefit from their usage, but also undoubtedly many modern IP laws have no moral base: eg. The song Happy Birthday to You was copyrighted in the USA until a few months ago; On what basis is it right for Michael Jackson’s heirs to own a monopoly on his work for the next 100 years?
What about the difference between what Solomon Linda earned from his song vs. what the rights owners earned?

Shakespeare made a good living from his work, yet had no copyright protection

  • @pastorshark (Comment 41) : @Hulk (Comment 43) : Interesting comments. I agree that Pienaar wasnt the quickest this year but im just wondering how much of it has to do with how quickly our forwards got into position for him to play them? Reason i say that is if you look at that Bronze medal game Pienaar’s service was very quick and nippy in the first 20min when the Boks were running the ball and the ball was moving past the forwards to the backline. Pienaar had a few successful tap and go free kicks/penalties as well. So yes he may not be as quick as he used to be…but i def think he still has it in him to play that high tempo game if required and asked to…just a thought. He was a quality player since very young…that quality doesnt disappear…just gets hidden on occassion. Serfontein a case in point as well

Losing Cobus Reinach and Pat Lambie in the same game against the Bulls in 2014, was one of the big reasons why the Sharks couldn’t build on the momentum they had coming into that 5th round. They looked really good together and were then selected together for 20 minute stints during the RC where they combined well again, as well as on the end of year tour that year.

Same happened this year. Lambie got injured and Reinach shortly after. We’re not the same team with both these guys injured. I’m sorry, but I feel like personal contempt plays a much larger role in peoples judgement of Reinach than his actual performance on field. Stefan Ungerer took over shortly after Reinach and played like absolute shit in most of his games, but people wanted him to do well so much that it was only during the CC that he started getting some criticism on this site.

From what I have seen of both players, I’d take Reinach a million times before I take Ungerer.

Micheal Claasens were quicker at times and more clinical, but he also had his off moments. Cobus mixed a lot of good things in with a lot of bad things and with every game got a little better at limiting the bad things, but the criticism of him remained at a peak here.

I never heard anything like it for a player like Paul Jordaan, who were absolutely atrocious in every single match since his return. In fact Mejekevu got more criticism and I thought he had way more good touches than Paul did.

I’m glad Lambie and Reinach is starting together. They know each other well and have played many outstanding matches together.

Players are too heavy and not fit enough to play that tempo game for 80min…not even close. So when we say we want the Boks/Sharks to play this high tempo game then we need to select the players to fit that…so a big heavy 4 and 12 etc isnt gonna cut it.

So as an example…playing Potgieter/Deysel/VD Walt as a loose trio doesnt exactly aide the high tempo ball in hand approach. But playing those 3 in combo does suit a close combat forward orientated approach.

  • @Letgo (Comment 48) : Is it a personal crusade of yours to run P.R. for all the Grey Bloem boys or are their certain ones you prefer.
In my opinion Claasens is a far superior player to any scrummy we have had since Kockert and probably all the way back to Craig Davidson
I always felt Reinarch, like Pienaar got special treatment for who his father was and what he meant to guys like Meyer and Venter.
There is no way either of them should have been considered for the Bok team ahead of Faf.
As for Ungerer,he was hurt scoring that try that won us the game in Aus when Bieber kicked it into his hands, and never made it back to form.
My problem with Reinarch is he is a maverick who plays his own game, and is horribly inconsistent. His flashes of brilliance are, indivualistic and risky.I like my scrummy consistent like Marshall,Gregan,Smith, and yes Michael Claasens.

  • @The hound (Comment 54) :

And Rory Kockett? Or is there some other reason you liked him. Kockett was a very similar player to Reinach, except his basic scrummy skills was far inferior to that of Reinach – “he is a maverick who plays his own game, and is horribly inconsistent”. You could easily say that of Kockett, except Rory did not have nearly as strong and clean pass as Reinach. Rory was also very slow behind the ruck… I suggested the 5 second rule when he was playing for the Sharks because he was taking at least 20 seconds to take any ball out of any ruck.

Ruan was a brilliant young talent, but unfortunately did not have the mental fortitude to build on that talent. He couldn’t handle the pressure of the expectations and disappointments of being a SA player.

I don’t know, or care about the background of any player. I just judge them on what they bring to the table. While Micheal Claasens has the clinical and astute game because of his years of experience, I would prefer if our coaches work on Reinach’s shortcomings and get him to the peak of his abilities. He is still very young and I’d rather invest in him than pushing him aside for Claasens. I think Reinach and Ungerer for that matter, can learn a lot from Claasens, but both Reinach and Ungerer should see more game time while Claasens should be used as a mentor.

Just one thing, I think Reinach should continue to play his own game, but improve in certain areas of his game… consistency, and quick service. Reinich is a dangerous player, like Kockett was, and that should not be coached out of him, he needs to learn when to use those skills and how to use them in conjunction with clinical service to the backline. You’re always going to get some inconsistency from a player like that, but with Mr. Consistency playing outside him, I don’t necessarily think it’s the worst combination, only that there needs to be a balance, that is sometimes still skewed more to being dynamic and not enough to being consistent and clinical (quick) in his service to the backline.

Ungerer on the other hand wants to play a quick game, but doesn’t yet have the skills to pull it of. His service is quick, but horribly inaccurate and sometimes not well though out. In attempting to play a quick game, I have found that Ungerer surrenders accuracy and sound decision making, where the ball either goes to the right person with a bad pass, or the wrong person with a quick pass, but still not necessarily accurate. He is still very young though, so I admire the fortitude to continue with this approach and I believe with some time and guidance he could still make it work, especially in combination with an astute and consistent flyhalf like Lambie. I really feel like we should be playing more with him, Reinach and even Venter than going with Claasens. Claasens is a safety net and a very temporary one at that. We need to put time into and develop our young players.

  • @Letgo (Comment 55) :” I would prefer if our coaches work on Reinach’s shortcomings and get him to the peak of his abilities. He is still very young and I’d rather invest in him ”
That in a nutshell is my problem with Reinarch.
You’d think reading that that, this is an under19 player in his first year of CurrieCup rugby, this is a guy who has how many Bok caps, and with that kinda rep from his number one fan.
This guy should not have been near a Bok jersey for another two years.
Unfortunately our National shit for brains coach and only selector chose him ahead of how many other seasoned candidates and then persisted with him.

The fact that you would point out that they are Grey Bloem boys, rather suggests that you are more critical of these players. I don’t know the schools our players played for before coming to the Sharks and don’t really care. Ryan Kankowski is one of the players that I have backed while most have lost faith. I felt his treatment by John Plumtree was atrocious and still feel a dynamic player like that don’t just lose it.

I don’t think he’s a Grey Bloem Boy, is he from the Eastern Cape or something like that?

Isn’t Paul Jordaan a Grey Bloem boy? There are about 5 other players in SA I’d rather play in his place. He has pace and it ends there. He can’t catch, can’t hold on to the ball, can’t kick, can’t run proper midfield lines … I’ve rooted for him since he first started, but aside from being very quick and nimble, I can’t see any other attributes that makes him a top center. I’d much rather see Sithole being given a run, at least he is strong on top of fast and nimble.

    Apparently I’m his only fan.

Reinach was by far SA’s best scrummy in 2014 and has been unlucky with injuries. He will always or in my mind should always be a more dynamic player that plainly consistent. It would take something away from his game. I like that he either scores or creates a try in every match he plays. I would hate to lose that and have a scrummy that simply pass the ball.

I should have said – “… get him BACK to the peak of his abilities”. While most here preferred Charl McLeod even when he lost form, Reinach outplayed him for most of 2013 and continued with his good form in 2014 after Charl left. He hasn’t had much luck with injuries since then, but if you could look past you bias you would have noticed some brilliant performances from Conus in the last 2 – 3 years.

I’m not saying he is perfect and he plays a high risk game, so he tends to make more mistakes than I would like him to make, but when it comes of it can be match winning. I like that about him and believe if he can stay injury free for an extended period there will be more good performances than bad.

Think Francois Venter and Reinach did as well. Matfiedl wore Northampton socks. Couldnt make out what Bakkies wore. Lambie’s current club is Rovers (Just FYI)
