We have a few pictures to share from Sharks pre-season training yesterday, all used with permission from Steve Haag.

Under 19 winger Sbusiso Nkosi. Watch this kid, he’s got a big future ahead of him.

Kevin “The KO Kid” Lerena. When he’s not supplying weapons in coffee shops or knocking out foes in the boxing ring, he plays a bit of centre.

New defence coach Omar Mouneimne puts the squad through their paces.

Forwards coach Ryan Strudwick. Behind him are Hyron Andrews, Lukanyho Am and Wandi Mjekevu.

Gary Gold and the coaching crew.

Namibian and Pukke centre Johan Deysel. Will he impress enough to snap up a permanent spot?

Prop Barend Potgeieter, who starred for the under 21s this year. Plenty of options in the number 1 jersey.

Another Namibian import; this one is lock Tjiuee Uanivi.

Thanks again to Steve for the pics. No using them without permission, please.

  • I say either way – there seems to be nice depth for the senior and u21 side. And knowing they let them train with the senior side spells good fortunes for the confidence of the juniors next year.

Says his boxing weight is 90kg and about 100kg on the rugby field (been at 110kg).
How is his rugby skill set, though? Boxers are taught to ‘clench’.could be a handy skill to have in the 12 channel defensively.holding opponent up and not allowing him to make a pass. there a few 12s at the sharks at the moment.
    I assume that lukhanyo am is a 13.also a youngster.1.86m 93kg.

watching different teams train is very interesting too me

club coaches could really learn a lot by just observing these types of sessions including bok open training

the warm ups, the drills, the vibe of the camp

im a bok die hard but it would be awesome to watch a AB training session, they are right now the pinnecle of the sport, thus they do everything at a high level

is WP/stormers pre season on ? Maybe i should take a day off and pop by

  • @Ben (Comment 25) : Watching those highlights i noticed a few things….1. The value of having big/quick wingers that dont just get bundled into touch. 2. The value of having a good decision maker at 15 joining the line to finish possible tries. 3. When Reinach clears from the base and runs his good support lines he is a damn good scrumhalf.

  • @Uli Boelie (Comment 37) : 100%…clear that ball then run support lines. One big criticism i have of Reinach is that he is a bit lazy on defense and doesnt run that cover line behind the first defensive line so there is a big gap in behind our first line.

  • @SheldonK (Comment 34) :you think the reaon deysel and lerana training with the sharks could be that esterhuizen is being considered on the wing?even fullback?
Nkosi looks powerfully built.how quick is he?stepping skills?do you know?also ,looks like he might have a low centre of gravity?difficult to bring those kind of players down, especially if they don’t run ‘tall’.

  • @Uli Boelie (Comment 42) : If i look at some trends in the modern game (and yes not all sides the same) but it looks like teams have realised that opposition defenses are getting better and better…so they look to play their play makers/steppers closer in and then have a big quick guy out wide that can perhaps take advantage of only a 1 or 2m gap thats created. Case in point is that first try in the Barbarians game…quick hands from Lambie/Milne Skudder gave Nandolo a little bit of space and well ya

I think SA sides need to start becoming a bit more like that, free to play the situation. React instead of act, if you know what I mean?
