  • Okay I’m sorry but how is a weak try a professional foal? A professional foal is something deliberately done to prevent a try or slow down the ball. Yes a scrum can lead to a penalty try, but nit the first one!

Usually it’s all defence and tackles and helter skelter mad panic type stuff.

Glad to see some SA teams evolving.

  • Watching the Lions game, the Chiefs were cutting the Lions to pieces in the first 7 minutes. The commentator: “The Chiefs have come to play!” But the Chiefs are getting penalised heavily in the scrums. Early signs all in favour of a typical NZ team vs Lions result.

  • Wow 20 minutes in the Chiefs score and it’s all Chiefs so far, looking dangerous as usual. The try came from a typical poor kick down the dangerous NZ backs’ throats. Looks a big, typical win against the Lions in store, crowd and commentators relaxed, the commentators calling out poor play from the Lions in the lead up to the try.

    Must have been some turnaround.

  • Jeez all that’s wrong in SA rugby… Matthew Pierce saying Adriaan Strauss is a “legend” in Bloem. How come we never hear any of the current playing Kiwi players described by their rugby fraternity as “legends”?

What has Strauss achieved in his career to be labelled a legend? Several Super trophies? Several Currie Cups? A World Cup or two?

We use the “legend” word way too much in SA in regards to players who are still playing and our players have massive egos. Look how humble McCaw and Carter are and if any players of this era are legends it’s them.

Legends are Danie Gerber, Naas Botha, Frik du Preez, Wynand Claasen etc.

  • @Kiss_the_Gold (Comment 74) : ja must admit people are very lose with the use of the world legend. Seems as if all good players are now legends so now maybe refer to Gerber and co as super legends?!?!
For me the true test is 20 odd year after you stopped playing the game will people (not just one or two die hard fan) remember you and what you did?
A lot of today’s legends will be tomorrows forgotten stars.

  • @JD (Comment 81) : hahaha, well the Bulls have just scored their 2nd try. Loose kinda game. Can hardly hear the crowd when the Bulls score.

  • It irritates me too when I hear our scribes say “senior players” because it encourages cliques, privileges, entitlement and a repressive, conservative culture. Every player on the park no matter how inexperienced is equally important but here in SA we like to do things differently.

  • @Kiss_the_Gold (Comment 80) : OK ja that would make much more sense. Really thinking about going to the Sharks away games vs either Lions or Bulls as they don’t play Cheetahs in Bloem. Maybe if attendance is so down I should go to Bulls game as there will be more space to sit and make noise!

  • @JD (Comment 85) : well I don’t know why it is but the crowds do seem to be larger at the local snorefest derbies. I’d much rather see my team play the best of NZ, Aus and Arg than the bozos from the Bulls and Stormers!

  • @Kiss_the_Gold (Comment 84) : for me it depends on the meaning of senior players. Senior guys like Odwa, Marcell and JPP etc must help youngsters settle in senior rugby but yes by no means are they more important or should get special treatment. When they run onto the field they’re all equal and must work together to get the results!!

  • Stransky and Brosnihan have the same effect on the ears as a blackboard being scratched by fingernails.

But they did have a funny moment there with Serfontein getting drilled by the ball in the arse. What a blooper.

  • @Kiss_the_Gold (Comment 86) : if only I lived closer to Durbs I’d also go for Crusaders or Chiefs games but living in Middle Earth I’m sort of forced to go for local derby games as the Sharks does not seem willing to play Saders or Chief in Bloem. ;-P

  • 3rd try to the Bulls.

Rebels not looking like “favourites” here.

  • That’s better from the Bulls. Try number 4. Great to see all those offloads and desire to keep the ball alive. It’s so hard to defend against rugby like this… we know because the Kiwis have been playing it against us for years.

  • Try number 5 straight into the 2nd half. This is turning into a slaughter.

  • @JD (Comment 89) : I’m also not to close to Durbs, but the wife surprised me with tickets last night for the Saders game on the 26th as we will be in Pennington for a bit of R&R then
