10 weeks for a taste of Keegan

Jaguares number 8 Leonardo Senatore has been handed a 10 week ban for biting Keegan Daniel during Saturday’s petulant Super Rugby clash between his team and the Sharks.

In a somewhat amazingly illogical ruling, the SANZAAR judiciary have reduced the sentence due to “good character”, notwithstanding the fact that Senatore has a previous biting offence on his record.

You can view the incident on RugbyDump here and read the full judgement below.

“Having conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence, including all camera angles and additional evidence, including from the player and submissions from his legal representative, Stephan Weyers, the Judicial Committee upheld the citing under Law 10.4(m) acts contrary to good sportsmanship – biting.

With respect to sanction the Judicial Committee deemed the act of foul play merited a low-end entry point of 12 weeks. The Judicial Committee then added 2 weeks for aggravation as this was the player’s second offence for biting. However, taking into account mitigating factors including the player’s good character, his playing record and his disciplinary record the Judicial Committee reduced the suspension to a period of ten weeks.”

Los Jaguares now face a very tricky fixture against the Lions this weekend without two key members of their pack. Captain Augustin Creevy has also received a ban for a dangerous tackle on another Sharks loose forward, Jean Deysel.

  • What a farce! So can we then say at least two Jags tries should have been overturned by VDGiesshuizen?

  • What gets me is, because these transgressions were not dealt with on the field of play as they should have been, the sharks recieve absolutely no “advantage” from them, instead the Lions now get the advantage from them, just doesnt seem right somehow….

  • @SharkED (Comment 2) : @robdylan (Comment 3) : ja it’s a valid point but can’t see another way of dealing with such issues.
On another note this guy has developed a taste for Springbok meat as his previous biting transgression was biting Etzebeth!

  • @SharkED (Comment 2) : Your point gives more evidence to my issue that the TMOs are currently failing at their job in rugby.

  • Rubbish decision. I am not one to play the victim, but what would an SA player have got for something like this – especially with a previous offence?

Just underlines how bad that muppet of a ref was – missing 2 red card offences in the same game.

  • I honestly dont think he will come out of this performance unscathed, he saw things that werent there and he didnt see things that he should have and then he imagined many other things. Im sure on some level he has to be sanctioned.

  • This is actually becoming the norm now and I’ve lost count how many times we (SA sides) have been on the wrong side of it. Anyway like SharkED said, this does not benefit the Sharks but that won’t change in the near future. Just the way things work.

Also what “mitigating factors”… perhaps he was just really freakin hungry? Perhaps before the game he smoked some Durban poison with the Ref. That would actually explain a lot. The poor refereeing and why Senatore had the munchies.
