It has been a busy day in rugby news with the following stories not making it to our Morning News thread. We have Lions and Bulls team news ahead of the Currie Cup Semi Finals and SA Rugby nominations for you.

The Lions also get to select some of their Springbok players for their Semi Final against the Cheetahs this weekend. Faf de Klerk, Malcolm Marx and Julian Redelinghuys all get to play this weekend. Quite a difference to their front row stocks! It is a shame that Ross Cronje now has to move to the bench, considering the season he has had to date.

The Lions will be missing out on the services of Elton Jantjies, Jaco Kriel, Lionel Mapoe, Franco Mostert and Warren Whiteley as they have joined their Japanese clubs.

Over at the Bulls there seems to be scrumhalf concers as both Rudy Paige and Piet van Zyl have current concussion problems with both having to prove fitness by Wednesday. Paige was concussed during the Springbok match against Australia two weeks ago, while it now emerges that his replacement van Zyl was concussed in training with the Boks. In some good news for Bulls fans, Arno Botha should be fit to be named in the team to face the Western Province.

The SA Rugby annual nominations have been released, and the timing could not have been worse. The Boks come off a rather poor Rugby Champs and a pathetic showing against the All Blacks, yet we want to praise our best players. The nominations are as follow:

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 2) : would have gone better had more Sharks players been nominated.

I see my attempts to nominate Andre Esterhuizen in every available category did not succeed :(
